We aren’t blaming Drake but you can’t credit him either. Him dropping two times a year vs one every 4 years isnt helping the overall quality of music bro.

The problem isn’t that rappers aren’t dropping its the music isn’t good.

I'm not saying he's the savior or anything but he's definitely one of the ones that's helping more than hurting lol.

People in this thread were acting like Drake is the reason for the downfall of rap all of a sudden

So then who is keeping rap at the forefront, Drake who has dropped 4 albums in the past 3 years or Kendrick who has dropped 1?

Only focusing on the last 4 years is kinda weird bro. That's what I'm saying. Kendrick has had times where he stayed in the spotlight but the ONE time period where he put himself over music he's getting killed for it and blamed for the death of hip hop. That's kinda crazy fam lmao

Also noname just dropped a great album and the only thread that stemmed from the album was one about jay Electronica.

We also play a major part in the trash settling at the top.

when joe budden called views uninspired and ranted, that sent shockwaves through the culture

when charlamagne called yeezus trash to kanye’s face, niggas couldn’t believe it

i’m not even saying they were right, but hip-hop media has played apart in the genre degrading cause niggas be afraid to have an opinion and niggas also have zero knowledge of music. they only know gossip and chart data.

can you name 5 personalities that actually aren’t afraid to tell their truth, if not the truth? in the era where everybody has a podcast lol

    Yes and No

HipHop media has been right when it comes trashing generic music that infiltrated the culture (ex: Iggy Azalea)

But at the same time it had little impact in the actual music for the most part

Views is still loved by the masses and brought attention to Dancehall in the US.

And Yeezus is influential to this day.

All kinds of white people like race conscious artists like Noname, Jay Electronics, Kendrick, Billy Woods. A majority of their fans even.

    Huh that’s not my point

I meant like less popular rap is the less white ppl will be involved

Can’t get on YouTube without seeing a c***reacting to something

This is where these arguments confuse me. What album that has been consistently on billboard is considered not having legs. It also produced the highest grossing tour of all time.

And rap doesn’t need to be kept to the fore front because it’s readily available it needs to be there because it’s the best music that comes out of it.

Drake dropped 2 albums last year 4 projects in the last two years and this first half of rap has still been the worst in years. Why do you think that is?

If the only way yo keep rap in the forefront is by flooding it with music then we have become the industry the labels want us to become.

Hip Hop media use to be very important. A rap album could get completely panned by mainstream publications and then XXL/Source and others would give the album a good, maybe even great rating(7 Day Theory was panned when it released but XXL gave it the coveted XXL on release). It showed other publications that Hip Hop is rated on a different scale and sometimes, you critics don't know what the f*** your talking about.

This true too tbh. It's more on the listeners for who they elevate. Cause there's definitely some dope ass niggas who could do some damage if they had the right platform and status

Can we please stop pretending like Kendrick takes 5 years to drop every time. That was one time where a pandemic happened, the nigga had two kids and got married.

Y’all always do this without context. And no Drake dropping every year doesn’t do more to keep anything alive. He adds to the monotony that is rap.

Dropping every year and adding nothing new isn’t helping the genre.

And yes when D angelo drops in ten years it will be more impactful musically than whatever Drake has been doing. I’m not too sure how you can even refute this.

”And no Drake dropping every year doesn’t do more to keep anything alive. He adds to the monotony that is rap.”
