But I'll have no money anymore to buy the game
Save up some more money, buy a Steam Deck and pirate the game!
doesn't the game itself specify at some point (some item descriptions) that the crucible was the primordial form of the erd tree?
Or am i wrong as well lmao
Yes, but that is an incorrect translation. Elden ring is the best translated from game, but still has a few of these errors. Another error for example is within the root resin description, which mentions two trees with intertwining roots, the greattree and the erdtree. That is wrong too, as in japanese its clear that its only one tree, and in lore makes sense too, as the process of "death" and rebirth that happens in catacombs, built in proximity of the erdtree roots, can only happen through the erdtree, its specifically its ability, so the existence of another huge tree's roots wouldnt make sense, and we dont see these intertwined roots anywhere in the game
Completely forgot about it but ive seen others discuss it online and there is a description mentioning helphen, an actual other, dark tree very similar to the erdtree that exists in the world of the dead, that welcomes the spirits of dead soldiers, and has effects to these spirits similar to those of the erdtree. Considering that the tombs we see in the dlc announcement artwork are used in the base game as soldiers' graves, this could be a sort of afterlife, with the decaying tree being possibly helphen. You could figuratively call this tree of the afterlife the "shadow of the erdtree" too after all.
@FlyHiii That Charred Thermos video is wild, my frenzy meter's going crazy rn, thanks for linking man, it's hard to deny the crazy number of parallels, I don't know about his casual 'I'm right and everyone else was wrong' approach, it's clearly inspired by a collage of things, but the Henley connection seems completely obvious now, I never would have guessed the game had such a grounded real-life inspiration
And you get to play Hogwarts as well because it's already cracked
Only for poor people who can’t buy the game kekw, get ya money up plehboi

As far as I understand, there was basically a big ass tree there before the erdtree, and it was called the crucible and had its own effect on the world. Then the EB and greater will arrived and “infected” or took over the tree with their own power, turning it into the erdtree as we know it.
Also just a thought, but since the 3 M children (Miquella, Malenia, Melina) have the 3 butterflies representing them, I notice that Malenia and Melina’s butterflies also have associated outer gods, the rot god and fire god, so it’s possible the dlc could include whatever outer god has ties to Miquella and the nascent butterfly.
Who said I wanted to play hogfart legacy in the first place
It was another user who asked if he should pick this or Hogwarts for some reason I thought that was u

jus die and start over bro it aint that deep
it does have a pause button. its called going to dashboard
He gets stuff wrong too
A lot of souls lore content creators miss the huge parts of the lore hidden in the japanese versione, as many descriptions and dialogues contain more information and/or have mistranslations in the west. There are still a lot of misconceptions due to these incorrect translation not only in elden ring, but in dark souls too. I wouldnt blame the smaller youtubers for this because you'd need to hire a good translator to do that work for you, but honestly i think vaati should consider that, he got the numbers and the quality to need that type of insight in his videos. The biggest example is the crucible being the primordial form of the erd tree, a melting pot of life. But in reality looking at japanese descriptions it comes out that the crucible was the same tree under a different name and of a reddish color instead of golden, which changes other parts of the lore in a cascading effect
True, i take it youre familiar with loki and his localisation work?

Glad youve taken interest

No actually, everything regarding souls localization i know of came from a big italian youtuber whos been talking about these games for a long time, but i will take notes on this Loki!! Do they have a yt channel or something?
I put in like 200 hours into this game and I never realized there was no pause button

I think that erdtree and crucible are simply the same tree under different eras. We know that in the history of the lands between there are at least 3 eras we know of: age of the ancient dragons, age of the giants, age of the Golden order. We dont know a whole lot about the giants, but in the age of the dragons, set a long long time before the golden order, there was an elden lord in placidusax and thus there was an elden ring, an elden beast and the greater will's influence. There is also the elden ring effigy in the farum azula mausoleum which proves greater will has basically always had a huge influence in the lands between.
Now that is related with the tree in the fact that the color red frequently comes out when discussing the crucible. The crucible incantations symbol is very, very similar to the erdtree incantations symbol as you can see in the image below, but the crucible is more of a reddish gold, while the erdtree is a pure gold.
The ancient dragons who lived in the age of the crucible also unleash red lightning as we can see when we fight them in game, red like the crucible. In general red is the color of the crucible it seems, but there is a definitive proof that seals it: the rune of death is red in color, the Golden order was born from Marika removing the rune of death from the elden ring, the crimson gold becomes gold, the crucible becomes the erdtree which is the main religious figure of worship under Marika's rule. So basically, the crucible is what the erdtree is called in its primordial form, a form in which the golden resin was red because of the rune of death's influence, its powers didnt include death and rebirth, as rune of death = destined death and thus no rebirth, and the main religion wasnt the golden order, but whatever their religion that worshipped the crucible was.
TLDR: its like God in abrahamic religions: same entity, different names, different interpretations
