For sure pop is missing genuine musically talented people who are making their own music

The reason writing credits are longer now is cos people sample now. And there's less singer songwriters and original writers who are major superstars. The closest thing is rappers, which is why people call them the new rockstars.

But in pop/r&B/rock we don't have loads of Eltons, Stones, Beatles, Curtis Mayfields, Stevie Wonders, Carole Kings, Smokey Robinsons, Sam Cookes, Kinks etc. That writing talent from artists is objectively missing lol.

yeah that would surprise me cos he's usually going out of his way to be positive about hip hop like Bruce or Lou Reed was (rip).

In pop/r&b i can't really think of many artists who are proper songwriters and popular. at the top it might actually only be Calvin Harris lol. Pharrell if you count him as current pop. Charli XCX if you count her as a popstar and she even uses a lot of writers
