dont think I've heard the term "critic bait" at all in the last 5 years until just now you would think we're heading in 2020

what does redditcore even mean in 2024? The bigger/genre subs just jerk off to old albums by bands like pink floyd, then everything else is just on artist subs

kanye would be the most clear for the term these days, the kanye subs are some of the biggest on that site and I feel like calling kanye reddit music is weird

also reddit jerks off jpegmafia, kanye, kendrick, earl, and like drain gang which doesn’t mean they’re bad it’s just reddit s***. you’ll have people on reddit swearing drake, trav, and lil baby (even my turn and prior) are bad artists

i hate that drake fans bring it up to combat kendrick because really ken is fire he has at most one mid album but is more divisive than mid

"critic bait" was like the term before the turn of this past decade, you legit couldn't escape it

I think critic bait is a real phenomenon however I don’t think the artist is the culprit. It’s more so a reflection of the critics and what they gravitate to. If I had to describe what that is, probably albums that are well thought out thematically and tell a story and have some level of messaging. Which is kinda dumb to just reduce that to “critic bait.”

just goes to show how far critics fell off these last 5 years

  • Dec 31, 2024

Music (or any form of media really) that puts the critic in a position of conflict that if they were to hate on the movie/album they would get hate and be questioned for it. For example if a white critic said they did not like Black Panther, or Get Out, Twitter and a lot of people would call them racist. Making the critic think twice about giving their true opinion on it.

i think thought about killing you, no mistakes, and ghost town are beautiful songs. yikes and all mine slap, violent crimes and wouldn’t leave are cool but kinda weak imo. big steppers isn’t bad it took a lot for me to finish it and i barely revisit it but i love silent hill and count me out

The 1 thing I’ll give Ye credit for, is for as weak as it is, it’s a very painless listen because it’s barely over 20 minutes and it’s over so quickly.

Morale is a long album and if you aren’t invested in it’s themes or arent captivated by the music itself, it would be a long difficult listen.

  • Good albums that people are mad about getting praise.

reddit is not jerking off draingang unless youre going to their specific subreddits, you could say the same for literally any smaller to mid level artist these days lol

the rest are just basic mainstream artists, but that kind of just shows how huge reddit is now. 10-15 years ago 'reddit tier' was such a specific phrase that everyone knew what it meant, but id argue KTT-core is more of an understandable descriptor at this point

Based off the names you mentioned though, youd have to add future and thug - they have very strong communities on reddit like all the others mentioned
