rise zeroIf I dont connect with it at all I wont bother with it again and that goes for not just music, but anything. If it peaks my interest even a little bit though I'll definitely revisit it at some point.
My haranging pretty much only applies to rvi because he's going full historian with it. I know the rest of you have lives.

Sometimes I don’t dislike something but it makes me very confused trying to experience it and that’s what stays with me.

rvitbh my country phase a year ago was mostly just planting the seeds for the next one and the 3rd one after that. knew anything wasnt gonna become an all time favorite yet so was just getting a foundation
think i just went through my 2nd big jazz phase recently, I don't think I understand all of Coltrane yet but in my next big burst I can see it all clicking even more all at once

im kinda interested to try your method for a little while tbh. i know you dont plan it out as much as me but
during like a 2 month period, how many albums would you say are in your digestion rotation and how often do you listen to them?
and how do you decide what to listen to if you dont plan it out, do you just have a big list and pick what youre feeling and make sure not to totally neglect any?
@Elric need more info on how you listen so i can give it a good college try

When she was good she was definitely good
I find her weird moralism annoying but she was usually good at getting around that to still praise something for its merit as art. Lots of modern critics don’t have that ability.

I don't know about you but there's no way in hell I'm going to learn to appreciate these 50 classic George Jones albums if I don't actually marinate on them. I'm not in a race to skim a bunch of quality music. We're probably built different.
this is wild to me because with a discography like that it seems like you will literally never finish, you'll be 70 years old and still havent gotten to his biggest song ever yet (1980)

And what I learned with Elvis' Live in Memphis is that sometimes I won't appreciate those albums that people made when they're a geezer until I've grown with them as an artist and am also a bit of a geezer myself. I've checked out some of those later George Jones masterpiece singles so that I'm not completely oblivious but I really need to just get old with these albums to appreciate them my way. He's kind of like the Grateful Dead and I'm about 1.5% of the way now.

I'm not sure but I feel like I might have weird circumstances cause I'm allowed to have music cranked full blast all day cause I got no neighbors and a beastly system. Usually all day at work too. Can get those playcounts up to the 30 I like pretty quick.

im similar except for the neighbors part, i live alone and work at home so i can have my big speakers going 8+ hours a day a lot of the times in the background when im working or cooking etc. im not really one to blast it super loud anyway
i usually put in a good 11 hours a day in, the last few hours listening on the fancy headphones

Yeah I mean Dylan is Dylan and I'm quite certain nobody in country music had such dramatic stylistic changes across the decades except Cash I suppose. Obviously I was not going to wait until I was 50 to hear his late career masterpieces. Bowie and some others the same.
