I feel like a lot of this is more an attack on the messenger than what they’re actually saying. Chappele’s controversial special was dedicated to his trans friend comedian who killed herself. It was an empathetic special if anything but he’s rich and possibly center right economically. On the other hand one of the most popular comedy podcasts has material on trans people that is significantly more offensive and mean spirited, some of which isn’t even jokes, but they’re perceived as being on the right side of history politically so they get a pass. For example Nick Mullen from CumTown said completely unironically this year that “non binary people are just autistic virgins who are looking for friends online so they slide into some identity that gives them an in group”. I’d say that’s more offensive than anything Chappelle said.

I think they all are to some degree, it just comes with the territory. I did like some of the s*** Bernie Sanders had to say but his promises always seemed like a fairy tale and Alexandria is one of the few around that isn't completely reprehensible. I'd vote for her over any of these old ballsacks they keep electing. At least she's hot.

and mullen is a unicorn, he can say pretty much anything and he has that cred that he is on the right side of these issues for sure. i wasn't plugged in to all that "dirtbag left" stuff back in 2015-16 when it started and how he built that cred..but yeah, mullen is absolutely a unicorn in that regard. he can do racial stereotype accents, drop the n-word, say whatever and he gets no criticism. i assume its mainly cause of the chapo connection. but yea he is teflon for whatever reason.

I'd say they're both s***ty. I can see why you say Chappelle's monologue was heartfelt but it also felt like a giant backhanded compliment.

Yeah tbh I thought Chappelle had kinda lost his magic when he first made his comeback (before he even started talking about trans stuff) but now be definitely conveys very little of the humor or wisdom that he used to imo

Every comedian who’s ever worked with Chappelle has nothing but nice things to say about him and he’s respected by pretty much everyone in his field. If you watch his commentary on the recent Norm McDonald special at the end he’s very clearly an emotional sincere guy. I see nothing but genuine empathy from him. If there was no controversy around him over these jokes I don’t think most people would even consider him being malicious or egotistical. It’s the weird feedback loop of how controversies are spread online.

Also it should be reiterated that the people who don’t like Chappelle are a very small loud chronically online minority. He’s still selling out massive venues and his audience is laughing. A comedian is funny and successful if an audience is laughing, which they are. It’s not up to people not attending his shows to make those judgments.

I like both those albums a lot but they’re definitely my least favorites. They’re one of the most consistently good bands. Even their “weak” albums are worth listening to.

I already said I still like Chappelle and his old standups are some of the best ever. He just got weird in his old age I guess.
