I don't hear it that way

They cite their influences on that record as like Talk Talk and The xx so more spacey sparse stuff mixed with the indie electronic sounds going on at the time.

its the best trip hop ive heard but i still only kinda like it. definitely like Roads and Glory Box though

i like some massive attack songs too but other than that trip hop is in the company of reggae and traditional pop as some of the genres i cant get into yet

I haven’t veered that deep outside Portishead when it comes to the genre. I’m just saying their take on it is fantastic. I mean there’s nothing else that sounds exactly like this. Should have spawned a million imitators.

Not hating but it just sounds like trendy bar lounge music to me

  • Some Ulver is really the only "trip hop" I think I know. Maybe some Chemical Brothers? (they did the Fight Club score)

Third time seeing George Clanton was as amazing as the others. He has a live drummer now and the Ooh Rap I Ya tracks sound even better in that setting. Everything slaps so hard and it's become total sensory overload visually.

I fell down in the pit during You Lost Me There and when I stood up George was crowd surfing over me

I’ve become a big traditional pop fan over the last year or so tbh. Great music to listen to while I’m working especially.

@Bizzle i think i finally cracked Census Designated after 6 full listens, it’s her best album imo

first off the lyrics are on a completely different level of maturity and abstraction which is awesome. the sound is so dreamy and consistent that it makes for one of the most cohesive listens i’ve ever heard, even without gimmicky song transitions. and her voice is amazing on here, showing a surprising amount of control over her newer, higher register.

i had a lot of trouble telling the tracks apart at first, but they’ve all got pretty distinct melodies and lyrics if you pay attention. i think my favs other than the singles are Backseat Girl and Idling Somewhere. Always Have Always Will and Video are right there with em too.

I need to give it some more time, glad you're digging it though
