    🥴🥴

If you look at those movies as 90s action legacy movies they are superb.

It’s what he does, can elevate the most mid of films

I will say David Ayer did have some good dialogue moments. Like “you in the office baby” “my nigga”

I’m not sure if any of that was improv by Denzel, but he did give Denzel the right words to elevate even more.

The norm became science fiction and blockbuster vulgar auteur stuff for action. Shooter is pretty clearly just an iteration of Enemy of the State or The Fugitive and what have you. Street Kings is dirty cop stuff. A lot of that got pushed to TV with 24 and The Shield and such.

That's how you should look at it because that's what they are tbh. Love em for what they are. Jaume Collet Serra made some good ones with Neeson. Whole industry of terrible direct to VOD action to compare them to. Some starring Neeson as well...

I mean you’re basically saying they’re s***ty remakes of s*** that came before, and I’m sure we were already looking at those films that way. I don’t think you need to have a “specific mindset” when watching a film. It’s either you like it or you don’t.

I don't think they're s***ty remakes at all. I'm saying there's a type of action movie they represent faithfully.

Enemy of the State is explicitly pulling from The Conversation. Is it s***ty just because it's not a New Hollywood drama? The Fugitive is based on a TV show from the 60s. Does anyone prefer that show?

The Wick s*** is the modern action zeitgeist and it's a pretty clear line from that to the Matrix to the Shaw Brothers. There are just types of action lineages. Mission Impossible and James Bond have adapted over and over to keep up with the present.

As someone who likes the 90s action canon, I also like Shooter and Street Kings. That style became scarce. I don't think it became less valid.

Lmao bro, I like enemy of the state and the fugitive a lot. None of what you’re saying is convincing me to like Shooter and definitely not Street Kings. I don’t think they are good movies at all, like street kings is f***ing ass. Simple as that.
