Do it
I renewed a couple of months ago to play Endwalker. Ended up not playing because I forgot all my rotations.

Yeah I can see that happening. I took a long break and when I came back I had to reread all of my tooltips, rearrange my hotbars and basically relearn how to play.
Beaten P4S as a tank now. I had some hard time getting used to Dark Knight as my first tank job but its really fun now. Monk will stay my main but i almost like tanking more. Now i gotta lvl Summoner as my magical dps and i think i go Bard or Dancer as my physical ranged. I don't think i will start healing anytime soon. Maybe if they revamp it. Tbh i need a new savage tier or do the old content unsync. Idk why it is so hard for them to adjust old savages to the new lvl cap... There is so much "dead" content that they could easily repurpose for people. I hope the new people they are hiring will help with that but the team is most likely still busy with ff16. 14 is squares most profitable game. They should just go all in. Even hire a outside group to redo the game with all its weird code.
I wish Square would release the violin / guitar arrangement of Eternal Wind that plays in the Shadowbringers trailer (4:33). The standalone version plays during 5.3 but it never showed up on any of the soundtracks.
I just did Baldesion Arsenal for the first time, it was pretty damn cool. Eureka in general made me want to play FFXI.
I’ve been thinking about trying this out but have 0 experience with MMOs.
How out of my depth will I be?

Depends on how much you are a fan of Final Fantasy and how much you enjoy story heavy games.
The Gameplay is actually pretty straight foward but you can costumize it to your liking.
They have a very in depth controller support. I play the class MNK and laid out my skills so that the game feels like a fighting game.
The game can be mostly played a solo story rpg game but also completely multiplayer. The community call it RPG with mmo elements.
The Story is amazing and is the best selling point of the game. The Story can drag in the beginning but if you get through the first expansion you will be hooked forever.
Tbh just try the trial and see if you like it.
Jumping in was also my approach but i was already a heavy final fantasy fan and immediately loved every references. Playing it on controller and also made me love it so much since i got really use the controllers full potential imo.
Diamond 1 and 2 stars with a winning streak we was about to get the checkpoint and the game ends on draw
...
No stars lost streak.
I win 2 games afterwards.
Diamond 1 3 starts.
My team literally throw the game.
F this. Gimme Crystal.

It’s a Final Fantasy game first and an MMO second. The main scenario is mostly a single player experience that occasionally requires you to do group content, and if you’re familiar with Final Fantasy or JRPGs in general then you’ll find a lot to love (and some of the best storytelling in its medium).
The game is quite accessible for an MMO, though it can be overwhelming at first with the density of its systems and UI along with the frequent tutorial pop-ups explaining it all. Overall it’s pretty simple to figure out, just take it at your own pace.
I was going through my screenshots and Ishikawa's villain dialogue (via Koji) is just piff.
(Binding Coil and Shadowbringers spoilers)

That Elidibus one "You do forget yourselves" hit so hard man, I love the villains in this game

The irony being that Elidibus literally forgot what he was fighting for and was being driven purely out of instinct and duty.

The whole moment during that cutscene where Elidibus was trying to remember what he was fighting for was so amazing man. Honestly with this scene and Elidibus accompanying us in Pandemonium he really might become my favourite

Everything leading up to and including Seat of Sacrifice was so well done. Having Elidibus transform into the primordial Warrior of Light was such a sick moment (and Amano's design looks fantastic in 3D).
I also just recently noticed that the lyrics in To the Edge are sung to the melody of the Amaurot theme:
Finished the main scenario for Stormblood. That was some good stuff
If you liked Stormblood, you're about to be blown away by Shadowbringers/Endwalker
Nobody joins my PF parties for learning Savages.
All the statics I come across just do end game content.
Need to get back on this. I stopped playing before endwalker drop due to school and now I forgot all my rotations
