What data centers yall playing on?
My main is on light and i recently made another char on chaos
playing thru the free trial and I’m about level 15. im loving this! literally my new comfort game
I’ve heard the other expansions are leagues better than ARR, so im excited for that. ARR is pretty good for what it is

I wouldn't say ARR is bad or anything since I enjoyed it a good bit myself, but it is nowhere near the level of Heavensward, Shadowbringers, or Endwalker. If you're loving ARR this early on, you're gonna be very happy with the expansions lol.

I actually liked ARR the most, maybe Heavensward a close second.
It was revealed in the last live letter for XIV that Natsuko Ishikawa has been promoted to a supervisor position while Daichi Hiroi has taken over as lead writer (recent work includes 6.x main scenario, Pandaemonium, and Tataru's Grand Endeavor).
I don't think you just take the reins away from someone who is as skilled in their craft as Ishikawa is without good reason, especially after hitting two back-to-back home runs with Shadowbringers and Endwalker. Combine this with the fact that Unit III has basically completed development on XVI and are now on a hiring spree, their next project might already be in pre-production with Ishikawa as the lead writer (or at least I hope so 🙏🏽).
i made this thread almost 3 years ago and I’m finally finishing ARR after some extended breaks lmao
Heard Yoshi P said ain’t gonna be no niggas in FFXIV as long as he’s running things

he was talking about the european medieval influence for 16 but if there's no blacks in Meracydia in the next expansion for 14 then we know what's up. Japanese culture has a weird obsession with European culture partially due to cultural exchanges with Germany after WW1. This general reluctance to include black characters in sci-fi and fantasy universes isn't new though e.g. the response to John Boyega being a storm trooper.

fantasy has this weird obsession with white euro and asian looks and i'll never get it. Everything else has to be some creature or demon.
it aint even just black ppl. like any character thats at least brown is sprinkled in sparingly. nothing new ofc but the excuses are always dumb and and less and less ppl are buying into it.

Yeah man, people are definitely becoming more aware and also pretty tired of it. Like even in Indian or North African and Middle Eastern influenced areas in games the people are generally just tanned caucasians or anthropomorphs lol. It's partly why even with big films like Dune I won't bother seeing them because the North African/Muslim influence of the Fremens is whitwashed, the fear of leaning into the cultural influences and having people from those groups in those roles actually robs the art/story of rich elements/nuances that add to the immersion for viewers.

Feel like the Moors aesthetic goes perfectly with FFXVI visuals though

just a byproduct of white supremacy sadly. it's a slow process for sure

Ofc but they've opted to pull from west/north Europe for the most part and even historically it's been the aesthetic they draw from the most. Like I said, there's a weird historical obsession with European but specifically German culture in Japan cos of cultural exchanges. There's a desert based empire in FF16 so maybe they actually have included some north african looking npcs etc but who knows.

Does anyone else not really care about 6.3?
Deep dungeons are kinda wack. More quests are always cool but those aren't going to last very long. And I'm not hardcore enough to care about ultimates.
Also the relics are very short so far compared to ARR/HW. but maybe they didn't want to give us a grind for the sake of all the people that haven't done hildibrand yet.
maybe I should just unsub for a year

I actually have been un-subbed for a while, just taking a break I guess and yeah deep dungeons isn’t something I really care about either if anything I might return for the msq. Also Relics are always very short in the first stage the second stage should be longer and I have done every ultimate in the game so far and I don’t think I plan on doing any more; the commitment you need for them is insane

If you look at what patches the relic steps came out for ARR and Heavensward they released multiple at a time and it started wayy earlier in the expansion too. People only gave them a pass for SB and ShB starting around halfway in because they had to design entire zones for them.
