Sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm very new to this but can anyone tell me if this scene used a red light to give the red colour during shooting or this was just editing using a red filter

    http://imgur.com/gallery/2xd0o8n

These sort of shots are almost always filters because of the difficulty getting the correct lighting for a scene while shooting and it’s 100x easier to play with it in post editing. It’s more likely a mix of both though based on the light reflecting in the window.

This shot for example was achieved by light reflecting from mirrors to get the pink palette. The entire set is covered in this fabric and the only source of light illuminating it is clearly shining from outside it. Extremely practical trick but even then some filters were added to increase the effect.

So can I create the red colour in the image I posted using just filter for a scene?

I don’t see why not tbh, at least for the pic you posted. It’s not the best representation of playing with light in a movie.

This for instance would be harder to achieve with filters

If your cinematographer is amazing then you can pull of some crazy s*** with lighting/colors without any effects. Which is why I love films with natural neon aesthetics, like those vintage Asian ones.

Here’s an example of using lights + a filter to get a certain dramatized look

The actual set probably looked like this shot

    @Rickon

But these aren’t just mere Instagram filters so don’t get it twisted, they are almost always custom made by extracting hues from an image and playing with colors specifically to achieve a certain look. Meaning, don’t think you can just boot up adobe premiere or Final Cut Pro and it’s gonna come out the way you envisioned

I’m definitely going out as one of the best directors of all time when it’s all said and done

Lol. Thanks that's eye opening. I'm actually going to give an editor for the filters. I'm trying to do some Nicolas Winding Refn s***. He's crazy good in using neo colors in his films

Soo I'm trynna make my first film... Short film actually and it involves a kid sitting still for a while while the camera records only his back. But the thing is I can't get a kid and I can actually be that kid but it the will be closer to perfect with a kid instead of myself.

Anyways is there a possibility that I can shrink myself??? It's only the back of my body that's showimg

Man I’ve just been trollin Grindr lookin for cute kids to collaborate with. I wanna maybe do a thing about a guy crossing over to some other world for a bit. Infiltration and impersonation and getting lost in a dream. I don’t have any collaborators for audio so I’m just trying to get my lighting and blocking ideas out.

Been sinking money into my camera rig recently trying to get a good shoulder mont situation going. I’m not very physically fit so I’m gonna have to start going to the gym soon if I want to be able to move like Soderbergh...

Eh I’m talking about his work on the Knick. Running and gunning with a huge Red rig. That’s closer to my fs700 plus atomos shogun kit

Thanks... The idea doesn't really seem possible to me. How long have you been a filmmaker and do you have any material out there

Wasn’t trying to flex, just saying I’m running on decade old equipment that is bulky compared to phones or dslrs and that is actively hampering my creativity as a camera operator
