FF15 does better on some side quests and extra content when you're not doing the main story.
But FF16 has many of the best boss battles in the series. The game has its flaws outside of the main story because theres just not much to do.
But are we all playing the same game? Taking down these big motherfuckers are top moments in gaming for me.
It's just everything else is kind of mid so it throws you off on how to judge the game.
I'm all about the story, I think that's the point of FF. It’s the final chapter, the finale, it’s the story of how it all ends and you as a player kind of have to put the pieces together of what has happened in the past as the story progresses forward. I think that’s the appeal at least for me. I play it for the story, not the gameplay. The gameplay is just a device to help me relate to the events and characters more. That being said the story here has just massive plot holes and loose ends. We are being introduced to new characters and places but there's no effort being made to explain why we should care even about the people closest to Clive. Even the main villain feels boring and non-threatening to me.
XV base game has the same problem but at least it has DLC, movies, and books to supplement for its shortcomings.
Honestly his voice actor is just weak. He needed to be a little more crazy.
they wanted to present an anime ass story without the anime ass expression because Ultima delivery is hella alien I get it but way to muted for a main villain and what he is saying/ doing

Yeah I disagree entirely, the gameplay in XV is atrocious and disregarding gameplay entirely when comparing games is very strange to me.
The problems in XVI are doubled when you look at XV and the fact that you need to consume other media such as books and a whole movie is a problem in itself, consuming a movie and reading a book doesn't actually fix the core issues of the game itself.
Releasing a video game and then explaining all the plot holes in a book speaks volumes about the quality of the actual video game
These sidequests man

God I wish I felt this way, but I can’t for the life of me wrap my head around enjoying the majority of these side quests.
I don’t know, maybe JRPG standards are just so incredibly low (which I get, JRPG side quests are legendarily bad for the most part and have been since the 90s).
But goddamn, this game doesn’t have the mechanical variety nor the presentation capabilities to make these things engaging.
Feel like they should have kept it more akin to Cyberpunk and tied side quest chains to secondary characters introduced in the main story that break off into their own character arcs, and all the side quests tied to primary characters should have been integrated into the main story, with the filler main quests excised entirely.
Fewer side quests doled out more evenly and appropriately in conjunction with the main narrative.

It depends where you are but the sidequests later in the game(which where I am) are quite something

I’m 93% of the way in. The side quests that I think are legitimately pretty good are pretty much exclusively the chained ones.

Chained? As in you had to do the ones before to access them?

Yeah. The quest chains. But that’s taken as a whole. Nearly all the other one offs are almost entirely forgettable.

don’t say jrpgs as a whole when persona exists

Nothing in FF16 felt better than discovering the Pitioss dungeon and completing it for the first time
Like who tf expected to be flying around in a car, finding an unlabeled map location you can only get to while flying, and then finding a f***ing platform puzzle dungeon inside your final fantasy with some of the best accessories in
there. Straight gas.
The kaiju fights are cool but once you get past the point where you basically control ifrit just like Clive it devolves into cinematics where you watch more than you play. Some of them are entirely too drawn out too.
