I hope Jun Akiyama (event planner/director for Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, XII, XIV 1.0 and more) is credited on this. World of Final Fantasy was the last game he worked on and was released in 2016, which is around the time XVI entered pre-production following the release of Heavensward.
A demo is coming. I imagine after Sony event this week?
“It’s clear that this is the most confident and complete main-line Final Fantasy game at launch since the PS2 era; it’ll match up to the excellent launch state of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.”
Yeah this shouldn't take up any time in the showcase other than them saying the demo is available immediately
It’s true that the Square Enix team is so anxious to make a splash that the game takes a little while to settle into a comfortable rhythm. The opening is a context-free flash-forward to an aerial battle between two of the game’s godlike summons, Eikons, with the player controlling a flame-spitting phoenix in a Star Fox-style rail shooter. It’s spectacular, if puzzling: Within a couple hours, you’ll be playing this sequence again, only with a better idea of what’s going on and what you’re supposed to do.
Nier: Automata appears to be an unsung influence on XVI from its approach to difficulty and RPG elements to the varied implementation of its eikon battles.
There was a Square Enix livestream from a while back where Yoko Taro was trolling Yoshida about wanting to write a sidequest for XVI. It would be cool if something actually came from that (🙏🏽).
