Is this good news ?

This is terrible lol. That being said, the PAX showcase was at 60fps, I believe they have 3 performance modes and I'm assuming this is the middle ground. Bouncing between 30 and 60 fps would be jarring asf

Odd because I'm pretty sure they had it at 60fps in the world during that PAX showcase (or at least, it looked that way, from what I remember). Regardless, that is pretty bad tbh. I'd be more than fine running it at like 1440p or just have it upscaled 4K, but the swapping between the two sounds not good lol.
Just need everything to release on PC day 1 so I can use my 4090

Yeah the PAX one had 60fps on the open world. I think this is a middle ground where the open world is at 4k30 and the combat is actually at 1440p 60fps. Its a strange combination tbh but I do think just a 60fps mode exists

Hope that's the case. Do not want it constantly swapping between 30 and 60. Like you said, would be crazy jarring, especially since going in and out of combat is seamless. Not like it's a typical turn based JRPG where you just transition into a different "setting" whenever you encounter an enemy and then runs at 60 in there (if that makes sense lol). I'd be fine with that, but still wouldn't be ideal.
I DONT KNOW IF THESE ARE SPOILER FREE!
Didn’t notice any spoilers that weren’t shown already in Max’s video

He also said they told him that they locked it at 30fps for the demos so there’s a chance it’s only for that purpose
They couldn’t think of another word to describe minor inconveniences?

Yeah but that was for “older versions” of the game so they were locked at 30fps.
Newer builds had 60fps if you chose performance mode. But he says battles were 60fps but running around was 30fps.
I clipped it. A very weird thing and I’m hopeful it’s sorted before release

Oh gross
Kinda funny how many people are complaining about the game having a focus on the story and having tons of cinematics and setpieces, while simultaneously claiming this isn’t a FF game.
Like, those components are what put this series on the f***ing map

There was a lot of whining about how XVI didn’t ‘feel’ or ‘look’ enough like Final Fantasy game back when it was revealed (🙄), which was such a feeble criticism considering how many of the series’ touchstones the Awakening trailer was hitting upon. Part of what makes a new Final Fantasy game so exciting is seeing how it takes elements from previous games and does something different with them, with Clive’s whole mission to blow up the Mothercrystals in XVI serving as an inversion of the classic Final Fantasy trope that frames crystals as something to be revered and protected.
Video game discourse is usually braindead (especially in the AAA space) but every round of marketing for this game further reveals the absolutely piss-poor state of media literacy among its audience.
How am I supposed to balance this and tears
