What about IX?
I doubt IX is happening at CBU1 or CBU3. Either third party with Square publishing or CBU2 imo
XV had so much potential and fell so short of it. Development hell screwed that game.
The Royal Edition fixed a lot of its flaws
Oh this s*** still going lol I thought we got demo news
Lol can't be worse than the bullshit you spam this section with.
I think you don’t understand what I’m saying. I want all 3 but am only getting 1 for now. I’m asking which I should get first.
definitely final fantasy my friend
"Yoshida-san: This is something that Sakaguchi-san, the father of FINAL FANTASY, and Kitase-san (FINAL FANTASY Brand Manager) have both said to me: FINAL FANTASY is whatever the director making the latest installment thinks is the best game, the best story at the time.
If they create a game with those points in mind, then it’s a FINAL FANTASY - so there’s no need to feel constrained by what’s come before. Since they’d said that to me, I didn’t really feel like this was a particular challenge. Of course, we hesitated and mulled things over, but I wouldn’t say it was “challenging”. Once we had decided on something, then that was all that mattered."
Go off.

do you think ix is even happening? its starting to feel less and less like a possibility

It’s definitely not worse I just really want a demo . I understand the jrpg discussion and a arguments made .

Yea. It was in the nvidia leak and a notable FF leaker on Era (I've personally seen them publicly leak stuff that later proved true) talked about it a few weeks ago.
Gonna be interesting to see the demo. Suzuki expressed concern about having a demo at the intro of the game cuz the player is so limited in terms of available skills in typical RPG fashion.
if dank souls is a jrpg it is than whatever this is is a jrpg too. turn based jrpgs are a whole diff genre now and the sooner we accept it the better.

i pray to zidane it’s true

but souls are action rpgs they're only jrpg in the most literal sense
There’s only one game this could be
She's replaying Elden Ring
but souls are action rpgs they're only jrpg in the most literal sense
what if i told you, that every jrpg is a jrpg only in the most literal sense?
Yea if you've avoided previews I suggest just avoiding all of them. There seems to be a ton of progression though with unlocking abilities and leveling them up and stuff. Lots of room for player expression for sure which was a point of emphasis for Suzuki (combat designer, was a lead combat designer on DMC5) according to interviews. There's a demo coming in a few weeks but it'll be the beginning of the game so skill will still be limited.
I have big hopes for this one too since XIV is probably my favorite FF game and all the people working on this are f***in superstars, really (unlike XV which was a ragtag group for the most part). Feels weird to be able to confident in an FF story and combat after XIII and XV but Maehiro (writer, creative director) and Suzuki (combat designer) are both GOATs.
It does feel like they've shown a lot but CBU3 (the team working on this game) is REALLY good at showing deceptive footage. They've been trolling the XIV fanbase with trailers like that for like 10 years lol. Like the Endwalker trailers, everyone thought they showed WAAAY too much and they legit only showed like the intro of the expansion.
Just got me way back on the hype train. Perfectly worded this
I mean we can try to feign ignorance and give people the run around and try to act like people are seeing illusionary patterns but I think it’s very clear how Dragon Quest is still a JRPG and FF no longer is. And both of those come from Square. And you can pinpoint the exact moment where FF was too far away from DQ to consider them the same type of game.
I think it’s very clear how the Y’s series is action JRPG but Bayonetta and DMC are simply action games. Despite them all coming out of Japanese studios. Is FF 16 close to Bayo and DMC or Y’s? I think it’s very clear.
All of this “JRPG is a fake label” discourse is extremely disingenuous and mostly boils down to FF making excuses for why it’s no longer FF.
this is brainworms. ff's combat system has been shifting since 3, doing an arpg is a smart move. im not excusing ff because i don't feel like i have to. the truth is we havent played it; for all the s*** talking it still seems like you'll buy it day one. so why don't you at least go into the experience optimistically?
what if i told you, that every jrpg is a jrpg only in the most literal sense?
yeah except souls is closer to skyrim than FF in terms of game characteristics.
idk why ppl itt are trying to act like jrpg isn't a genre, or like the only difference between them or general rpgs is the country of origin

“game characteristics” is not a term, there are plenty of japanese games that use knights (we’re in the thread for one)
what are the defining mechanics of a jrpg to you? what separates it from every other rpg in the world, and if you say it’s got some anime aesthetic that’s fine, but to my mind pretty shallow in a conversation about mechanics. i think it’s fine for someone who “makes jrpgs” to say they find the term racist, and for the rest of the world to react to that. personally i agree with that line of thinking, i doubt any developer from square to atlus seriously considers how “j” their rpg is when creating a new game. it seems like a belittling term that’s a relic from a time when it was also cool to say “japanime”

again ff hasn’t had 1 for 1 turn based combat since x so i personally have no idea why we’re still even talking about this. skyrim brings nothing to the table in this conversation
