There’s no way they’re remaking it in the same vein as 7 right? 9 is nearly as big, it’d have to be multiple installments too.

It's tough cuz even the demo we're gonna be limited due to it being the beginning of the game. I guess we'll get a general feel for the flow of combat though

A full blown, top down reimagining would be f***ing absurd.

Yea it doesn't really make sense to do big changes like 7R cuz the whole point of IX was to be a callback to classic FF in the first place. For sure just a big graphical remake like Bluepoint with maybe some QoL stuff.

I don’t have a problem with action RPG’s. I play soulsborne, Bayo, DMC, monster Hunter, etc. I don’t have a problem with action JRPG’s. I play tales, Y’s, Nier, etc
I don’t care if FF “evolves” the combat to make more money. But I think it’s disingenuous to act like JRPG’s don’t exist and that FF was never a JRPG so whatever it is now is no cause for concern.
We can go from turn based to action, it’s unfortunate but it is what it is. But how did we get to a point where we don’t even have a party? Not one player controlled character outside of Clive.
What it essentially boils down to is that FF is the video game version the fast and furious series. Yea whatever it is now sells a lot and appeals to a wide audience but we not gonna act like it’s the same type of game as before.

I ask again: what is the defining trait of JRPGs that is unique to the genre? JRPG isn't a thing. It's a regional moniker employed by westerners to describe RPGs made in Japan. There is no unique trait to JRPGs. You mentioned how XVI has no party -- there are lots of games considered to be "JRPGs" that do not have a party system and only have a single controllable character. Why is Nier an action JRPG but not XVI?
Of course FF isn't the same as it was before lol. It wasn't the same when we went from FF3 to FF4 either. Or FFX to FFXII. Or XIII to XV.

So I can see them doing a decent remake, probably just like FF10 was handled9 isn't quite there yet. 10 is for sure more popular/loved than 9. Honestly even some of the older titles like 4 and 6 are, too.
FFX got a remaster, I think the expectation for IX is a full ass remake

We’re so back
I can’t believe after almost 2 years with no update we’re really on the cusp of a new FF title. This is my first time following a mainline FF release other than Endwalker and man there’s really no equivalent.
I’m expecting 86-89 but my heart tells me this is gonna crack 90
