You can say it I was yapping
Not unlike the first time I dipped into the film section of chat a decade ago and got roasted by everybody for declaring The Master as a modern mastapiece, except by you "he's not entirely wrong" was the best you could give me lol
But yeah I definitely felt rigid austerity similar to Jim but minus low-key humor. I'll check those out.

did i really? i felt like i always held the master as my personal favorite since it came out but i was impressed by phantom thread and even moreso when i revisited it a couple years ago. i still think the master is the most special one for me, but i am a big fan of phantom thread, inherent vice and punch-drunk love as well, those 4 for me are a good margin above the others.

Yeah you did but I wasn't mad cause its fking exquisite agree those are the ones with the magic that's hard to even describe but id have to add TWBB (top 5 transcendent theatre experiences of my life)
Last time I checked Paul also considered The Master his personal favorite.

TWBB is def worthy of a mention alongside them but strangely its the one that has aged the worst out of the bunch, it was originally super top tier and certain aspects still are but I caught it in theaters again last year and surprisingly it felt like i could see the seams in a way that isn't the case with those other 4, top 5 for sure tho. licorice pizza is interesting and i've only seen it once tbh so i gotta spend more time with that one. honestly his first 3 films aint really it in comparison to what he went on to become
Its message is more powerful than ever considering the actual disheartening situation there. Found original also the way the story unfolds through the various cameras...

This sounds cool. I need to check this out
Week 1(sci-fi): Godzilla Minus One
idk what i can say that hasnt already been said about this one, but i think something that really stands out is the pacing of it, it has the perfect amount of "downtime" between godzilla appearances that lets the story breathe and the characters develop without beating you over the head with monster scenes, that definitely earn their screentime. really wish i caught this one in a theatre.
Favourite scene: godzilla "charging up" and the opening beach scene.
Week 2 (movie older than I am): Hackers (1995)
just a fun movie, nothing more nothing less really. i love this era of movies that seem to perfectly capture that era of technology and the internet when it was mysterious and had seemingly limitless potential for those in the know. love the actual hacking scenes just looking like some 2000s computer wallpaper with (seemingly) random math equations floating around on the screen
also enjoyed using a motherboard as a visual representation of a city like NY, think they only did it once or twice but i wish they would have committed more to that visually.
casting kinda went wild on this one:
Fisher Stevens is born to play this slimy 90s hacker role though, hes just got it down perfectly.
Angelina Jolie in the 90s clothes with the short hair cut... wow
fav scene: Fisher Stevens character on a skateboard hitching a ride on a white limo in the smoky back alleyways of NY to grab a floppy disk from the main character
