Good on him for being so open and honest about the influence of black music, would've been cool if he said this when the songs came out though

Every honest artist will admit to stealing even when it’s not noticeable to us

Tarantino came out admitting what he was doing. This mug didn't. Same with Elvis.

I feel like the whole "cultural theft" argument gets stretched too much in terms of stuff like this, I don't see it. It's just how artists get influenced by other artists.

Like labels and the industry can get blamed for cultural exploitation but it doesn’t make sense to blame artists for that they make the music they like and the injustice comes when the white ones get more credit from the mainstream

Yeah and him taking the best parts of other films and reworking them into his classics are what makes his so good

Tarantino tells people what he's doing and then does it... These people liberally steal from actual talents and get paid because their culture hasn't heard of good music before.

Tarantino has always been explicit about his love for black culture. From movies to music. He always says that he uses other films within his own films. He'll go outta his way to cite the films so there isn't smoke.

These people get successful off the music first then 30 years later be like "well guys, lemme tell ya... we sampled Gap, cameo and Tony Thompson... artists from a whole nother culture, we just repackaged it as our own & gave it to yall"

It's not like Kanye sampling Thru the Fire or George Duke..

It's theft of musicianship and not giving your actual influences their flowers during your heyday.

Now that he's a hack, he says who his influences are. Black Music

Black music growing from black music via generation to generation is wayyyyyy different than what's being said.

lol you don't know what Quincy said because he wasn't talking about Michael growing his music from previous generations of black culture, he was saying he straight up stole.

And this is Thriller MJ, after Off the Wall, Michael wasn't an upcoming or brand new artist at the time. He could've given royalties and credit at the time like y'all are expecting from Grohl.

FWIW I don't think MJ "stole" or think what he or Grohl did are wrong.

Why does race need to brought into these discussions anyway?

He even brings up the point that MJ should’ve paid out royalties

It’s a pretty wild read. Quincy went HAM. Wildly disrespectful, really.

Wouldn't say this is pandering as this is another example of how Black America originates and White America patents.

If people knew how many paintings, historical figures have been repainted as white folks, ppl wouldn't know what to believe. This goes with inventions, titles, ranks etc.
