Hey y'all. I've been off KTT for a couple of months. Figured I'd come back to give a Jewish perspective on everything that's going on right now. For some background, I'm not heavily religious, but my grandmother was a Holocaust survivor who emphasized the power of religion in keeping our family together. I grew up in a majority Jewish affluent neighborhood. Kanye was also a role model for me. His music and confident persona gave me a certain framework to cope with severe depression. So I feel pretty equipped to provide some perspective for people who don't understand just how harmful Kanye's rhetoric has been and also just want to provide some venting on how much this sucks.
I also don't want this to become a breeding ground for whataboutisms. I vehemently oppose hateful rhetoric against all walks of life.
I'm going to start with some concessions. Yes, the entertainment and banking industries are rife with Jewish executives. I know some people in these sorts of positions. I can tell you that they did not get their jobs because of their religion. They got their jobs because they were put in positions early on to go to prestigious institutions, which ultimately leads to prestigious jobs. Jewish culture places great emphasis on education. It is laughable to think that there's some Jewish cult that's determining every major decision and ensuring that more Jews come in to perpetuate their "agenda."
Speaking of agenda, I do not understand how there could even be such thing as a "Jewish agenda." The idea that Jews want to create a more secular world is simply not grounded in reality. There are 8 million Jews in America. In what world would a "path to domination" through the secularization of the United States even become feasible?
That's the most I'll do to refute any of these idiotic points. Because they are that stupid and antisemitic. Now I want to move to the consequences.
The past month has presented us with the most public antisemitism that I have seen in my life. We live in a society where people want someone to blame. The average dude who has never met a Jewish person in his life is now blaming Jews for all of their problems because they supposedly all have the power to ruin everyone's lives. Simply put, none of it makes sense. It never will.
Jews are disproportionately targeted by hate crimes already. In 2020, Jews were the third highest targeted group, despite making up about 2% of the U.S. population. I can only imagine more hate crimes in the coming months. More synagogues burning. More Orthodox Jews attacked on the streets. I go to a religious school. I legitimately fear that my school will be targeted, and targeted soon.
This is the same rhetoric that was responsible for starting the Holocaust. That's why this is dangerous. Kanye (and Kyrie while we're at it) have promoted antisemitism to at least 100,000,000 people at this point. I remind you, there are 8,000,000 Jews in the United States. I would willingly bet that most Americans don't know a Jew personally, since we're mostly localized around the coasts. These comments being the most that a lot of people will ever know about Jewish people is deeply troubling, and likely to proliferate more hate crimes.
To end all of this, I'm scared. I'm scared for myself. I'm scared for my friends. I'm scared for my family. The only way for the notion of Jewish power to be defeated is by attacking Jewish people with no consequences. Any consequence for these attacks is merely viewed as proving Kanye's point. It's a lose-lose for us.
I hope that this can provide some perspective. Happy to answer some questions before I ask for a perma ban again.
