its not a real thing lol
when ussr fell political scientists and other international relations people thought the world was going to keep changing in major ways so they were making a bunch of kind of far-fetched predictions. China was going through a good growth period and the theory was that these other countries that had also been poor and seen some s*** would go through a similar arc. So these guys (mostly westerners) came up with the idea of BRICS and said "these are the countries to watch out for in the future!" its not like any of the countries that were a part of BRICS were pushing for it to be a thing, they were just grouped together because of theories abt their possible futures.
of course the projections were wrong and basically none of those countries saw that kind of growth/development except china and kind of india. and none of these countries really developed strong political ties with each other either. Eventually people stopped talking abt BRICS because it became clear it was a stupid concept.
You can tell it's outdated asf because who would put South Africa on that list today? it was mostly just included because of post-apartheid hype.

YANDHIBRICS itself isn't a threat. It's existed as basically a talk-shop between emerging economies for 15+ years. The only thing that's changed is a global reaction to US sanctions on Russia that deterred trust in USD. If US can start freezing reserves and using them for war funds, they can do it to anyone. So now everyone is looking to slightly de-dollarize where they can including BRICS thinking about their own internal group currency that would protect against USD sanctions.
People have this fantastical idea that BRICS is a NATO-like alliance or the G7. There's no binding treaty here its just a club of countries (some of which don't like each other) that understand the importance of working on key issues as developing states.
There's not going to be some flip in economic systems over this, but it sped up developments that otherwise coulda taken another decade. USD is still the world's reserve currency and will stay that way unless the US f***s it up. BRICS ads pressure sure but not as some evil plan to hurt U.S, its cus they need to save their asses
honestly as a person who lives in a brics country i want this currency to happen ASAP the US and Europe are doing too much.
It's better for the rest of the world to disengage from these countries because they always starting s*** on a major scale.

How because the countries under brics have no connection to the west, all the brics countries have to do is disengage and its a wrap. The US and EU can't compete with china and russia in terms of military force that would be like committing suicide. Also considering China's role in manufacturing components.
Also no African country would even try to participate considering how china has really entrenched themselves in Africa.
