I wasn’t sure what to expect from The Lost Tapes following Stillmatic, maybe just a chill compilation of leaks and cool tracks but this album is really pieced together like a masterpiece album

This album is a lot more relaxed and subdued compared to Stillmatic which makes it a chill cooldown but it still hits just as hard

It’s a lot more reflective and introspective compared to some of his other albums before this and it definitely works he comes right out the gate with Doo Rags

The wordplay and storytelling on this album is so good with songs like Fetus and Drunk By Myself

The only song I wasn’t feeling that much was Everybody’s Crazy but even then the lyrics are still elite, just not as good as the rest, just alright enough to the point it doesn’t take away anything from the album

    10/10

Favourite Tracks: Nothing Lasts Forever, Doo Rags, Poppa Was A Player, Fetus, Drunk By Myself, My Way, U Gotta Love It

    Least favourite: Everybody’s Crazy

Yeah 8.5 for I am was hella generous, I’m a huge Nas fan (and it has some classic songs) but it’s probably a 7 for me. The production on 50% of it has aged badly

Stinkers is harsh for I am. It has
    NY State of mind 2
    Hate me Now
    Favour for a favour
    We Will Survive
    Nas is Like
    Undying Love
It may not hold up as an alum but the highs are high

Yeah, I Am is a good album

Nas' pen was on point and all the tracks you mentioned are incredible

Every time I see someone saying it's bad I revisit it and then I'm pleasantly surprised, and just assume they don't remember the album.

It’s because of songs like dr knock boot and kissing. The production isn’t exactly timeless and some of the hooks don’t work, but in all it’s not a blemish like a lot say. Nas is like is maybe a top 5 Nas track

Nas Is Like is legit one of the best songs ever made, better than most artists' discographies

yea theres some good stuff in there of course but overall they pale in comparison to illmatic & it was written

honestly dont like that he reused the ny state of mind beat it lacks the dark and gritty vibe the OG one had

Is was more of a continuation than reusing, there were slight differences but I feel you. Tbf nothing is gonna compete with the original, still a nice song though. And yeah it’s not top 5 Nas, but it’s not bottom 3

I Am is damn near his bottom 3 for me lol. Stillmatic, The Lost Tapes and God's Son are easily better. It might be better than Street's Disciple but I think I prefer Hip Hop Is Dead. Untitled is definitely better as well (most underrated Nas album).

The Source gave I Am 4.5 mics when it came out but just like the Vol series some of the production hasn't aged well.

Yeah it’s not a 4.5 but I’ve got it above nastradamus, streets disciple, lost tapes 2 and probably hiphop is dead and nasir (although I do f*** with that album)
