Azarea knew I was a player,
Brought Fatima loud screamer,
While I blew clouds of reefer
They sucked juice out my urethra,
While Marvin Gaye pumped from the speakers
Virgo, Thief’s Theme, Suicide Bounce and Bridging the Gap are some personal favorites off of SD for me
forgot to mention but i feel like by 2004 Nas ear for beats was starting to fail him when you think of what other popular rappers were doing around that time
especially when College Dropout and Black Album came before this
Label politics prevented him from fulfilling the true vision he had for Street's Disciple
And he had leftovers with great beats but they didn't make the final cut
Tyler seemed to like it
Funniest conversation ever, hard to believe it was real
Tyler, the Creator: God’s Son is my favorite album by you.
Nas: Aw, thanks. Why? ’Cause the word “God”?
Tyler, the Creator: Nah, it’s like, I got… Okay. That came out in 2003, around the XXL issue with you and, like, Jungle and them.
Nas: Yeah.
Tyler, the Creator: The January/February issue. And I bought it with that. I don’t know. That s*** just... Like, “Heaven” is my s*** on there.
Nas: Aw, man, thanks.
Tyler, the Creator: “Zone Out.” Your verse on there was f***in’ ed.
Nas: Word? Thanks, man.
Tyler, the Creator: That whole album was just legit.
Nas: Appreciate it.
Tyler, the Creator: And my second is probably Street’s Disciple.
Nas: Get the f*** out of here.
Tyler, the Creator: Yeah.
Nas: Because it’s a Last Supper thing?
Tyler, the Creator: Nah, nah. It’s just, like, the beats on there. “Thief’s Theme” is my favorite f***in’ song from that album. That s*** is f***in’ ed. I love the video, too.
Nas: Appreciate it, man.
Tyler, the Creator: I always forget the f***in’ name… “Nazareth Savage”?
Nas: Yeah.
Tyler, the Creator: You f***in’—
Nas: Wow, wow.
Tyler, the Creator: You f***in’ spazzed on that. I don’t hear people talk about it that much, so…
Nas: I was about to say nobody ever mentioned that record to me, and s***.
Tyler, the Creator: That s*** is, like, legit as f***.
Nas: Nobody ever did. Word.
Tyler, the Creator: I love that s***.

i could see god’s son being someone’s favourite
streets disciple 2nd is wild though
i could see god’s son being someone’s favourite
streets disciple 2nd is wild though
Plus his fav thing on God's Son is Zone Out
Smell fear like a canine that finds buried babies
Is the darkest/hardest line in Nas’ whole discog
trash
One of the worst Nas songs ever that accent
The ahh haa bit at the end like he revealed something monumental
Gotta be honest, this album kinda stinks
It’s not all bad but Hip Hop Is Dead has a fair share of weak dated beats and a concept that might still be relevant depending on how you see things but makes this album a real product of 2006
There’s some good moments of nostalgic introspection and aggression/disappointment from Nas but for the most part I don’t feel much from this album and it just sits with other albums/songs from older rappers who have feelings towards younger rappers
Nas is still a lyrical beast at least🤷♂️ but he’s just not the same at this point in his career
5/10
Favourite Songs: Black Republican (song ain’t even that crazy it just did good catching the big moment), Still Dreaming, Let There Be Light, Playa on Playa, Hustlers
Worst song: Who Killed It? (maybe the worst Nas song)
some quick lil score revisions
every album gonna get rescored at the end since i’ve let them sit but here’s a quick update
Illmatic - 9.5/10 (Classic)
It Was Written - 9/10 (Classic)
I Am - 7/10
Nastradaumus - 4/10
Stillmatic - 9.5/10 (Classic)
Lost Tapes - 9/10
God’s Son - 8.5/10
Street’s Disciple - 4.5/10 (my thoughts changed super quick on this one)
Hip Hop Is Dead - 5/10
Why illmatic not a 10 @op?
I remember it took me forever to find a hip hop is dead cd as a kid, finally found one at a record shop downtown which took me forever to get a ride to when i was maybe like 8
Got the cd, finally listened to it and it was kinda mid tbh
Love Black Republicans, great beat and iconic moment but the wayne and juelz version might be better
Who Killed It is f***ing trash
Why illmatic not a 10 @op?
mostly just be being hesitant cause i always flip flop my opinions
i’ll probably make it a 10 by the end but i don’t wanna jump the gun

It's the most safe (and well deserved) rap album u could ever give a 10
HHID is probably a bottom 3 Nas album imo, not mad at this opinion. Untitled takes multiple listens so can’t see @op f***ing with it either tbh. Hits his stride again on LIG though
The title track is hard as f*** and then it goes into one of the worst Nas songs ever
The accent
I have a soft spot for Can't Forget About You. Used to watch the music video on MTV everyday after school. That's the only track tho lol
HHID and Kingdom Come came out within 3 months of each other
No wonder the south took the f*** over. These niggas was STRUGGLING
