Bieber learned nothing after Kanye severely ghosted him at that ranch.

Bieber was inspired by how little you can do and how unprepared you can be

He was like “wait I can just do this? That’s dope I gotta hype this”

The backlash to this performance has been a bit excessive imo.

I think that people were already mad before it started because it wasn’t going to be streamed. I get that live streaming festival sets has become more common, but it still should be acceptable to not stream a set. If you want to see a performance, then go to see it live.

As for the actual performance, people wanted him to play “the hits” in a traditional way (i.e. as they sound on record) or play new material. He obviously did neither, but I don’t think that he should be criticized for it. The renditions that he gave were great (his voice sounded maybe better than ever), and the remixed instrumentals kept old material fresh. The house style of some of the remixes along with the DJ set made complete sense if you have been following him for the past 4 years. Hoping for new songs or an album announcement was wishful thinking.

With all of that being said, he should not have started an hour late (which also caused the early ending), the transitions between songs should have been smoother, and he should have actually sang during Nikes/Nights. All of these things should be criticized. But the end result to me isn’t a disaster of a performance, which is how it’s being portrayed.

Actually, 6 years and a few months, but go on with your incorrect assumption

  • Apr 18, 2023

I feel like where he might’ve really lost people is the Night Life cover

I think people dealt with the rave set and were ready to get back into it, then after Godspeed they got the rock song, which they were probably cool with too but the confusion growing

Then they film this other dude lip syncing the song for a really long time lol, it started to feel random. Even though Frank was the one singing I assume but everyone in the crowd is like wtf is happening

it's not a disaster of a performance, it was just pretty mediocre from what I understand

Plus no new album announcement and no livestream is like an extra punch in the gut for the ppl who had expectations, let alone those who travelled from all over to go to that show

Just rewatched the performance on YouTube and honestly was feeling it so much more this time. I think being up at 6am to watch it and all the delays and unpredictability added to my perspective on it. Outside of the length of the set, the long pauses and him letting some songs run on the AUX, I think the whole show was pretty great. Can imagine it was incredible if you were actually there experiencing the full sound and scale of it
