I read that they couldn't get it done in time, but who knows.
bro had 3 years
any theories on why there was no merch at all
dude always sells merch
conspiracy theory
all of this was intentional and this is what he wanted to do the whole time. all of the ice skating and etc was cover so that the organizers of the festival would let him perform and he could last minute pull it all and do this instead for whatever reason. Hence no merch either
Niggas who thought Frank would premiere a brand new album as the headliner of Coachella should be collecting disability checks
Iām not saying I expected it but I can promise you that the poor reception to this set isnāt because people arenāt ready for Frankās radical new dance direction lol
The execution was just bad, he wants to have a new direction without new music lol people aināt gonna go for that
He's left the narrative around this performance to hearsay, some of which has been stretched or straight up made up to better fit narratives. Not streaming this has come back to bite him in the ass.
ive been saying this all this time and im glad people are realizing like there would literally be not nearly as much backlash or it wouldve blown over by now if there were a livestream!! people would be running back the good parts (which was literally most of the performance) like no tomorrow instead of cringing at out of context clips and actually making s*** up

I think imma wait for the end of the weekend to make any final statements regarding Frankās angle this entire time

wonder if the merch was themed around the skating/snow imagery and didnt want to use it after he decided against the stage design
I think imma wait for the end of the weekend to make any final statements regarding Frankās angle this entire time
for sure yea Iām less confident on that than I was immediately after but weekend 2 will definitely clear things up more
We have literally no clue, itās all hearsay and youāre forming absolute truths from bits and pieces that came from strangers not even Frank himself
Assuming someone is mad when you literally have no clue how they feel is very parasocial
Uh I don't think Coachella or Youtube would bend over for Frank Ocean two times after his first cancellation lol, so it seems like Frank really wanted to cancel last minute
by all accounts he showed up on sunday pissed and not wanting to perform. he almost cancelled day of. seems to me there are two possibilities:
it was bad unintentionally
it was bad intentionally and the whole thing was some self serving art piece related to his a24 deal

There would def still be backlash because the experience for people there was definitely not good but the online backlash would definitely be way way less
People would just be running back that heavenly white Ferrari version
Mfs really think artists go āon tuesday, Iām working on Endless, on Friday, its blonde timeā
Thank you. Iāve had this argument a bunch of times on here
its not really assumption based they've posted about every single performer other than him and hes a headliner lmao
thatās literally an assumption
youāre drawing conclusions based on something you dont see
There would def still be backlash because the experience for people there was definitely not good but the online backlash would definitely be way way less

when they turned the lights on people were booing and I heard a girl say āIām so mad!ā
also read various youtube comments about people crying on the way back to their campsite
its funny seeing this get retconned
it wasn't a complete s***show of a performance and the parts that were great were really great but it was pretty f***ing bizarre for a headline coachella performance, exceedingly disjointed and was pretty apparent to every single person in the audience that something weird had happened
I can understand that watching the livestream you can pick the parts you enjoyed but to show up late and do what he did was very very unusual and pretty hard to pretend it was a good performance as a whole in really any way shape or form. and im a huge frank fan who definitely found a lot of joy in his performance regardless but I can also accept that it was by any real measure not a good show
Niggas on here really tryna act like a live performance is some super subjective thing, when in reality it isnāt. Either the audience enjoyed it or they didnāt
Most of the audience was either confused or completely disappointed, that means that it wasnāt a good show just like you said here
thatās literally an assumption
youāre drawing conclusions based on something you dont see
willful ignorance
if itās so good why doesnāt he perform any of those songs and why did he call it a throwaway album
But he did perform songs from endless lol
That ādifferent recording sessionsā thing is not true; itās an assumption made by non creatives
Anyone with a brain can tell that Endless was born from the same sessions as Blond. Frank was able to execute both projects so well that it made them feel very distinct. The structuring of Endless was genius and made it more than the sum of its parts. It stands on its own, but it is made up of things that didnāt make Blond. One way to know that the projects are fluid is that Mitsubishi Sony was supposed to be on Blond. The nostalgic storytelling should be a tip off too.
Not hard to imagine the words of Alabama, Slide On Me, and Comme de GarƧon fitting with the themes on Blond. āSuburbia got a yard all this estate for my mind to runā that part always screamed blond too
Obviously Frank made a s*** ton of music in those 4 years, and I donāt believe there was āblond sessionsā and āendless sessionsā during that until late in the process. Itās much more likely he had a pile of ideas and curated them into two projects
āI got two versionsā
I agree it makes no sense that he had stark divisions between the projects while working, but I presume the idea of making enough for two albums to get out of the deal was likely there from the get go as well.
any theories on why there was no merch at all

Honestly probably just didn't wanna be there but was contractually obligated. He did everything possible to disrespect Coachella and piss them off lol
But he did perform songs from endless lol
I know I was wrong, most were live debuts tho. How much time was dedicated to endless that night? two minutes?
Vibes horrendous itt
I'll come back later

he played Florida, At Your Best and Deathwish
Prob more time on endless total than on Channel orange

Nah there would still be people who are disgruntled with the performance for sure. The point of my post is that it would be better if people could decide for themselves what the show is or isnāt.
if itās so good why doesnāt he perform any of those songs and why did he call it a throwaway album
u dab again? cuz this ain't it
I put endless over blonde for a longgg time. maybe still do

Yep.
