a24 are still "indie" i guess and they had a meeting w Frank like 2-3 years ago so the idea of them working together was definitely explored. No hate personally and, look, A24 + FO is a marriage that makes sense for so many reasons but I think they've turned into more of a glamorized PR company these days which I guess does overlap with what a distribution company should be but I think they've lost a little bit of the appeal and steadfastness that got them the recognition they have now.

To the point where you feel a project's perception might get boxed in because their name's tacked onto it. I don't think perception matters imo if a film is out it's out and it's whatever but it definitely does matter elsewhere. Good move imo. Bleeker street, janus, some other indie distribution (or self releasing) could work. Don't even know the scope of the release but if he wanted to bigger then I'm curious which one he ends up with. Remember he had to get XL to help w distributing the first pressing of Blonde so...idk

almost all of their releases post 2017 Moonlight best picture win imo, and yeah they're definitely seen by many as a "genre" like you said.

That Alex Garland Iraqi war picture they're putting out this year is definitely stretching the limits of the lunacy/cult status they have around then lmfaoo

Again I don't really care about this stuff but defo acknowledge the perception around them is there

I'm going to Mexico City in a couple of weeks and my hotel is near a cafe they apparently shot at, will ask the staff if they know.

Saw like 6 big trailers around Roma Norte and heavy security - I think I walked by the set, tons of people were wrapping up and putting equipment into a big truck.
