reading that latest homer post had me like... idk man, i just thought to myself like, don't people find his whole schtick to be so tired at this point? "oh man I'm so cool check out these cool things im doing and the cool things im referencing, im making moves and doing all these cool things aren't they so cool? doesn't this description sound so cool and self-aware like im a hip hop aaron sorkin or some s***? give me money while i offer nothing but lab grown diamonds and uninspired design at a major premium" and im just like

not to sound anti-art im definitely not, it's just giving poser which i never thought i would say about this guy. maybe it was always like this and im just not a teenager anymore.

• his interviews with zane lowe or nardwuar are insufferable; he likes to break down the theory and intentionality behind everything from the color palettes of his outfits to modulations in the bridge of a song, guy talks like he’s delivering a thesis it’s so forced

• he tries to control every aspect of how his albums are received, his rollouts feel like he’s begging to be considered a “visionary” with all his dumbass alter egos that end up sounding the same

• the constant reminders that “i do it all myself”: design, production, writing, comes off like he’s preemptively defending against being undermined, even when no one’s attacking

• he’s implied that he’s evolved past “basic” hip-hop by mocking trap beats, chains, and jordans but still borrows from the same culture when convenient (guest features with nba youngboy, rapping over dj drama)

• called his grammy win for igor a “backhanded compliment” because it won best rap album even though he submitted it in that category.

• he presents himself as this enigmatic, worldly tastemaker citing wes anderson, hiroshi fujiwara, and french jazz then randomly reverts to childish antics or corny punchlines, the inconsistency is more performative than authentic

• he gets irritated when asked if he still considered himself a rapper, “i’m a composer.” such a plea for status lmaoo

i could literally go on for hours, dude is cornball personified, a cry for attention but only the kind he needs to fuel his ego.

I get the sense that with jewelry it feels like a fresh start, it's a medium that carries no expectations for him.

Music and video are two art forms he's much more well versed in as a creator so probably has higher expectations for his own achievements in those. Possibly.
