agreed man. this new Lisa is beautiful, she looks like so many fine ass black girls I grew up and went to school with. She’s hella down to earth and chill in her personality as well so it makes sense that Will would gravitate towards her instead of the bougie broads at that school

this is something I’ve always thought about but this show is really putting it into perspective for me on how deprived we have been of dark skinned black women on tv. these women are so beautiful

I love my Zendayas and Zoe Kravitzs but it’s a shame that it’s mainly light skins holding it down for black women in film and television. I need more melanin on my screen

Back to Lisa though, admittedly I’m having a hard time understanding how she and Carlton were in a relationship. Carlton is such a coon that I feel like he’d go for a white girl instead and Lisa is so chill that I can’t imagine her entertaining his preppy bullshit. hopefully we’ll get more backstory

Yes it is. First off nobody knew how racist trump was back in the 90's. Why you think all them rappers were taking photos with him? Also not being exposed to racism or being a republican at that time especially does not mean you were an uncle tom or even close to letting the N-word be dropped in your presence like that.

Ion like how they’re making Carlton be so “uncultured” for lack of a better word. One of Carlton’s greatest scenes was in season 4 iirc, when they were in college, and they were at the black fraternity party. Buddy called Carlton a sellout.

bro they did that s*** on the original Fresh Prince all the time. go back and watch any episode and I guarantee there will be a reference some kind of 90’s pop culture

I feel like people are being a little too hard on this show’s use of slang. Will was constantly using 90’s lingo on the old show so of course he’d be using current lingo nonstop on here.

Interestingly, I remember Will often using the word “dope” and it felt so weird and foreign to me watching as a kid in the 2000’s but somewhere in the 2010s, the expression “dope” came back in style and it’s aged really well now lol language is so funny that way

ehh it’s not the same at all

you can get away with a lot of things when it’s a sitcom like the original

but they made this into a drama, so it opens itself up to a lot more criticism that we might’ve looked past previously
