Thinking about it now this episode would work better not being the season finale. Besides not being a good conclusion, they made such a suspense since episode 2 about what was going on with Van just to give this bs explanation. It completely destroyed her character.
It surely won't grow on me but I hope with the release of next season I will hate this episode less.
Fair take but I believe the Van situation might be simpler than what we want it to be, she’s a mother who is wanting to have travel have fun but dealing with mental issues. I think the show made it more mysterious but really she is just human and going through a tough time like most of these characters
Zazie Beetz and co. are really talking about how they're rooting for someone who sent human body parts to cannibals because they were depressed/psychotic.
She needs HELP. She doesn't need to be a mom or see Lottie right now ffs
holy s*** u taking it deadass serious
I feel like the point was just to show Van's life spiraling in the most insane and comedic way possible.
i dont think the cannibal thing is an actual slight on her character as a human being imo, that s*** was just ridiculous did you not see them big ass fried hands on that table
I really enjoyed this season because I really liked the stories, it’s kind of meant to piss people off and I find that interesting, kinda fascinating. a lot of stories in this show moved me. i understand people hating it but idk I dig it
that's the weird part cus im saying the problem is i dont feel any sympathy for the white ppl in the anthology s***. I think the writers want me to feel sympathy for them, but I don't. And you'd think being white would make me more sympathetic, right?
I don’t think sympathy was what he was going for. More of a self-awareness check. “Damn I sorta relate to xyz” that sorta thing, then being able to recognize maybe you’re part of the problem.

If this episode & Al’s tweakin episode switched places, I think it would be received a lot better

you don't see helping people eat big ass fried human hands as a slight against someone's character?
Thats white Earn
Remember when he talked about how the airport lost his bag in The Big Payback ?
So the ending with the bag confirms that the anthology episodes were apart of the world and that they exist as real events?

I'm saying it's not literal. the show using surrealism as a way to show Van trying to create a new life after being lost in a weird ass way.
honestly feel like none of what we saw actually happened. it did, but it didn't, idk how to explain it. like I know it will never be addressed again.

Absolutely
way I see it, Van's storyline this season had two questions
1. what is she going through to make her ditch her old life and go to Europe?
2. what is she doing all by herself in Europe?
the first is obviously the most important, and was answered with Van's monologue at the end. that monologue would've been there no matter how they answered #2
answering #2 could've gone two ways. either she's taking in the sights as Van and getting a much needed break from motherhood or she's completely left behind Van and is living a new life altogether
I'm glad they went with the latter because the former would've been boring and not Atlanta style
people saying Van would never serve hands or plant meth or whatever are missing the point. that wasn't Van we saw doing those things, it was this new character she invented to escape from Van

Idk. I think her nervous breakdown was just too ridiculous for me to ever take her character seriously again.
The surrealism is cool and all but they had never sacrificed a character over it like this before.

I understand that but I also feel similar to Darius leaching off Al (not being thankful to him too) in new jazz and leaving him alone in the middle of an intense trip, of course van was extreme in the Finale and that you look at her different now because of what we expect from her. so I get that, show makes you dislike the characters we romanticize in a way and I like that, I get what you mean tho

It's not surrealism though because it's actually what's happening to the characters. It directly affects them and their morals. The surrealism before has always been adjacent to the character motivation. This is not that.
ong yea
difference between surrealism and just s***ty writing
And the fact the episode wasn’t written as a finale makes me think the writers went off and wrote their own episodes and then tried to piece it together when they was done

Exactly. Weird stuff was happening around the characters. They weren't the ones doing crazy s***. Not without a good build up.
Woods, Teddy Perkings and New Jazz are good examples.

Lmao ion think we can chalk up selling human hands as “meh she’s going through a tough time”

So are we suppose to take the show serious or not? Cus y’all be in here peeling back every layer of the deep themes presented, yet now it’s all suddden not serious?

Imagine if in New Jazz, it was revealed Al had touched a kid at the Cancel Club or some s*** and he was just like "welp I was on a d***. My b."
nah nah, it's surrealism

Y’all keep using this “surrealism” excuse but when have they had a main character do some super left field s*** that made no sense wit their character?
Lmao ion think we can chalk up selling human hands as “meh she’s going through a tough time”
I mean sinister people can be mentally unstable. van has done other things throughout the seasons that I don’t f*** with before the hands s***

Darius has literally been like that from day 1 tho…
And he thanked him

Lol you know damn well she hasn’t done anything as bad as selling humans hands
If this episode was better written and Earn had a solo episode I would rate this season waaay better.
I mean, how tf Earn had that good arc last two seasons and now he's just Al's good manager? I thought he was the main character. They just didn't know what to do with him now or did that on purpose just to bReaK eXpECtaTionS.
