This is what all music would sound like if TESTING was as impactful as Rocky stans claimed it to be

I skimmed through the album and this is so accurate

    awful piece of music

Prefer this to that album to be honest as an overall body of work

this is just a dressing up of half baked work in transitions and song structures that are above an ever-devolving norm. there's no identity to take away from this, the art direction is just more broadly curatorial than it may have been before. idk, maybe I always held out for goldlink to make much bigger leaps from project to project? I respect what you're saying and value your opinion but my only question is what is goldlink trying to be here? if there was an opportunity to be reflective, he didn't prance on it. if he was trying to broaden his palette by feeding off of carti, there's nothing impressionable or distinctive enough to go back to. if he was trying to make something bold and explicit, he didn't play to his strengths; his rapping is the weakest and most milquetoast its ever been.

im so sick and tired of this pseudo-experimentation in rap. oh yeah lets just take this grime artist and mix him with this alt pop artist and put them over a trap beat with a slightly intriguing icy synth. so f***ing insulting to anyone who values rap as a continuously critical art form and to think it will get better from here continuously proves to be out of the question

feel you. ye era really spoiled us

I never thought he was that great of an artist to begin with so I’m not even the right person to answer that question tbh but imo, this is as focused of a project as I’ve heard from him. Outside of his first project, I never felt moved by any other piece of work he has dropped besides this one. Never found him particularly amazing lyrically, he’s not a musician so he’s reliant on others to push him sonically, He can’t necessarily sing, there simply isn’t much too him as an artist outside of rapping to even warrant any deeper a***ysis other than figuring out whether or not this vibes with you in some capacity. In terms of curation, this is his most focused work. Sonically, there’s joints on here that are simply amazing like terrordome, Evian, raindrops, etc...Lyrically, again, never found him that particularly great but he has his own sort of way of doing things that works for him I guess and that’s fine. He isn’t necessarily ever going to out rap anyone bar for bar but I was a bit surprised at how focused a lot of the tracks were here lyrically being as I’ve actually questioned in some of his previous work whether or not he ever says anything of substance at all and I’m not even talking in terms of content but literally saying anything contextually coherent lol this is prevalent in a good bit of his music and a large part of the reason I don’t particularly enjoy it besides a few records here and there but this is without question the first record from him I’ve personally enjoyed off the first Listen

so that’s what his IG caption on the cover meant. “ITS A VAGINA” sounds like he’s rapping from inside a stomach. wtf is this?
