Godfather part 2 might be the best movie I’ve ever seen, pure tragic art. Goodfellas is definitely a more fun movie tho for rewatches.
godfather 1 is best
ranking of all the mob movies i've seen:
1. Goodfellas
2. Godfather 2
3. Godfather 1
4. Casino
5. The Departed
6. A Bronx Tale
7. American Gangster
8. The Untouchables (i f***ing hate this movie)
Flawless list tbh
Idk, Goodfellas is more kinetic in the directing sense, which gives it the rewatchability edge. Godfather is more grand/epic in scale making it richer. But if you'd ask me what I'd prefer to watch over and over again, I'd say Goodfellas easy
Infernal Affairs >> The departed IMO
Watched infernal affairs and I still prefer departed
godfather and it's not even close. goodfellas might be more rewatchable but doesn't have the dept that godfather has imo
road to perdition is underrated, you might like that op
Goodfellas gets huge points for karen hill. I love her character more than really any godfather character, and honestly she might have one of my favorite female characters of any movie. That shot with the gun pointed at the camera will be my next avi once this one stops being funny to me.
Godfather is so f***ing detailed tho. Like as soon as sonny is shot you wonder in the back of your mind if Carlos set him up, and then it pays off towards the end.
It’s so close for me still.

It’s hard to beat Pesci at his peak dark humor.

Road to Perdition is low key my favorite mafia film. The music had me.
This DW Griffith short from 1912 started it all. I highly recommend for anybody who's a fan of the gangster/mafia genre.

Wow crazy exactly my list too
Goodfellas is great, definitely a classic, but Godfather 1/2 is on another level of filmmaking and has maybe the best casts ever.
I tend to like Scorsese's smaller character-driven films more than his pure gangster flicks, stuff like After Hours, King of Comedy, Mean Streets, etc.
1. The Godfather
2. Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler
3. Mean Streets
4. King of New York
5. Miller's Crossing
6. Casino
7. Once Upon a Time in America
8. Scarface (the original one by Howard Hawks.)
9. Prizzi's Honor
10. The Irishman
11. The Godfather 2
12. Little Caesar
13. The Roaring Twenties
14. Goodfellas
Goodfellas is a better mafia film
Godfather is more like The Leopard & Rocco and his brothers. Visconti influenced both Scorsese & Coppola. I like Scorsese but The age of innocence is like a cheap version of Visconti's films. not even Barry Lyndon looks more grandiose than The Leopard
I think the best mafia film since Goodfellas is Gomorrah (2008) it has a documentary style with 5 stories and nonprofessional actors like Rossellini's Paisan. some of them were real camorra
