God that ending was brutal
I wanted so badly to spare him but felt like killing him would be the honourable thing to do rather than let him live in shame. I spent a good hour thinking about it.

in my opinion Jin would never kill him because the whole point of the disagreement is that traditions and ways of thought can be wrong and should be challenged, therefore the samurai code of killing his uncle is wrong

This was my original pov but I felt like his uncle was beholden to his old code so even if I kept him alive he’d resent Jin for embarrassing him.
But I was pleasantly surprised to see that your choice is the canon ending?

the creative director of the game, Nate Fox, even said that sparing the uncle is the canon ending

it definitely makes sense character wise
I was reading some reddit threads about what options players chose and it was a great read. I initially wanted to do the canon ending

I disagree with the take of it being against Jin's character, him killing his uncle has no hold over his point of abandoning tradition, it's deeper than that it's family. It'd be pretty weird to forgo it just to prove some overlapping point. On top of that his uncle was already a dead man walking, the Shogun told him to kill Jin. Not only was his uncle already dishonored, he'd be killed for his failure of not killing Jin. To me Jin would've let his uncle die by his own hand than being forced to commit Seppuku or whatever other way the Shogun would've killed him. Killing Shimura was more empathetic, throughout the whole game Jin put aside his own wants to help those around him. Killing Shimura wouldn't have been obeying a code, it would've been him helping a man he loved over choosing his own desire.
Started playing this on PS5 yesterday, the game is beautiful, combat system is a good mix of stategy with a dash of hack & slash.

this is exactly why I made the decision I did. It was very difficult though.
