2018 was lightning in a bottle, such a special experience. ragnarok is close though

2018 was so good i was hoping this would be better tbh but cant complain its a very high bar to pass

The freshness that the reboot provided helped, and I personally enjoyed the more pared back/basic and intimate settings, story, and relationships that were at play there. Ragnarok was obviously a lot bigger and more bombastic but a lot of it just felt like window dressing, to me 2018 exhibited a more heightened sense of place and you felt like you truly got to know and recognize the lands.

The lake of nines hub and how it develops throughout the game, having Atreus as your main companion throughout the game (and his cool skills, summoning lightning wolves was so door), and of course the big reveal of the blades of chaos which added an entirely new layer of complexity to the gameplay were all such memorable and meticulously crafted moments and elements that didn’t quite hit the same mark for Ragnarok
