Most people aren’t trying to hear that in the music they listen to nowadays. It really sucks because it is hurting even being able to have a proper discussions surrounding a subject. I think it is by design that the music being pushed to the forefront is the lowest grade of mind dumbing s*** you could bring attention to.
“Here for a good time, not a long time” will continue to hurt our society and there doesn’t seem to be anything stopping it. The generation of 35-50 rn are also very confused between trying to stay young and hip (dumbing themselves down) or being actual leaders of our society. At least that’s something I’ve noticed when I go to older bars or hangout with my older siblings. They are able to have well informed discussions about society, politics, etc. but then at the same time still be involved in depravity, which seems to be what people would rather be involved in than well informed discussions. Which then affects the music we hear as it has to support the popular lifestyles of society today.
Therefore the well informed discussions rarely happen and instead we solely focus on money, excessive consumption, trips, restaurants, dating, social dynamics, and other topics that do not lead to the overall benefit and growth of the world but rather feeds into this competitive nature we all have against each other and ourselves. The music as a result is affected greatly.
Social media really f***ed us up and it’s still in its infant stage. Lord knows where we will be and how much further down we will sink in the next decade or 2.
I’m really young so maybe I’m missing the point entirely, but these have just been my observations over the last couple of years, especially this year.
@insertcoolnamehere @the_ghost_of_b_a @ThisIsNeverThat let me know what y’all think, am I off?
Its never been this way. Look at the biggest songs from each decade. None of what’s popular reflected the world
The labels owned by the same people (won't say who) that own the media and the big corporations and fund the government.
A conscious rapper is the last thing they want to promote.. but they out there my friend. If you’re looking
Thats like 1 song in the 80 year history of pop music being a thing. Plus its obama, everyone was d*** riding him in 08

This song wasnt that big
The bad stuff is content. The music is content. The social media is content. You want a balanced media diet. You want to consume the poison and the antidote. This is a consumer choice issue. It's the only power you actually have.
Lowkey's album Soundtrack to the Struggle pairs well with the Gaza crisis. Like is that what you want to hear? Sounds pretty silly when you say it out loud. Good art or bad art, it has about as much impact as David Guetta's MLK tribute. Is it really that important? Idk, read a book. At least you'll feel informed.

At a show but damn this is a good post
Social media has totally f***ed up the way in which we consume things. People are unwillingly exposed to a lot of nasty things on the internet as is...i doubt consumers would want that to leak into their music. Which is a shame...anything political in the media nowadays is posturing
a video i was watching brought up that people like the idea of "heroes" and "leaders" and when those aren't socially/politically available they will turn elsewhere (artists/entertainers etc) so that explains part of the desire
The note in the op just feels like an empty sentiment
