Good and bad. Now everyone can see racist s*** happening without being able to deny it, but it also gave racists a platform
Only people who live through the media believe in race relations.
Look at what you see in the media, look at the race relations polls, then compare that to how your actual life is when you go outside.
Are you really living on edge where races are at each others necks on a regular basis like this (and no im not talking about the asian situation because thats not the same, people were saying race relations were bad LONG before that)
Don't fall into the trap.
fair point but even then i don’t think things were as extreme then as they were now. im seeing more and more people being open about their ignorant s***
I think that may be it. We're seeing more of it. As more people gain access to technology and social media, the rest of gain access to viewpoints and perspectives that we did not before. S*** has always been grimy, we just didn't have cameras in our hands 24/7 and the ability to instantly upload.
No it’s just more visible now.
This.
Social media has f***ed up alot of social dynamics though, and causes mental illness.
No it’s just more visible now.
This would only make sense if social media was an accurate representation of reality, which is far from the truth.
I would say that social media has absolutely amplified hate. People have made a full-time hobby out of combing through social media and trying to sensationalize anything remotely race-related.
S*** was never getting better
Look at how people treated Muslims after 911....
Before social media there was mainstream media.

you just see it now.
Social media inherently increases and influences polarization and race is literally the most polarizing thing so it was inevitable.
That and the fact that even with the current "cancel culture" climate most of the things said online go without so-called "real world" consequence.
you just see it now.
It DID f*** up mad social dynamics though if were being real
But yeah it is just more open and you notice it now since everyone got a camera in their pocket basically
Thing that is most ridiculous is people are stupid enough to film themselves committing crimes
you just see it now.
This isn’t a good way to look at things.
Gun violence is way down over the past 30 years, but we hear and see about it more than ever.
You can’t really make any kind of correlation between what’s actually happening and how much it’s being talked about.

source on that please?
source on that please?
This is an outdated study but if you just google the topic there’s all kinds of research that’s been done on it
Social media has just made racism more visible
Racism has ALWAYS been strong and apparent in our country, it’s just social media has made it easier to expose that hateful truth that racism is still just as strong and rampant as it was 100 years ago or even 50 years ago....
When people say this I question their knowledge of history
Twitter isn’t real
It’s pretty terrifying how this generation that grew up their whole life with social media essentially have a completely warped view of reality
Not at all, it's now "cool" to be politically aware and racists get rightfully dragged on social media. In the 90s cracking racist jokes in school was probly no biggie, but make a racist tiktok now and your future is out the window. Social media just gave dumbass racists a platform to expose themselves
When people say this I question their knowledge of history
Blast these mfs into the 80s and see if they're still asking this question
Twitter isn’t real
The racists in the comments are real people most of the time. It's a small sample size but socials really do reflect our societies
When people say this I question their knowledge of history
type "I was born in the wrong era" and they black as hell.
