It's fair to say that Blinding Lights is now his biggest song to date, and potentially one of the biggest pop songs of all time (goat)
But has the overwhelming success of the track overshadowed the entire era/chapter?
In Your Eyes rapidly dropped out of the charts and Heartless has virtually been forgotten about as well
Comparatively did BBTM find success across three/four big singles in the form of The Hills, Earned It, CFMF and In The Night
If you look at Apple Music, the single version of Blinding Lights is the one that is charting/garnering the most plays, rather than the album version
When you release a song with as much success as Blinding Lights has found, does the wider body of work become forgotten about?
Is this era/chapter's longevity being extended simply on the basis of Blinding Lights' success?
People just hearing blinding lights r gonna check if hes got a new album out
I like to think so, it's such a good body of work, I'd hate for this era to be remembered by the masses solely for spawning BL
I think it's unfair to compare to BBTM in this way.
The album had one massive single, that's ok considering the time that it came out.
helped
The Weeknd had a strong core fanbase, and a wide appreciation from pop and hip-hop music listeners. But he doesn't have a crazy huge fanbase like a lot of the biggest superstars. He needs all the right things to happen to have one of his singles to blow up like Blinding lights. It's sad because AH has some of the best pop music in a long time, but most likely there won't be another big single.
Any other single pushed will go the way of in the night, Secrets, and In Your Eyes.

Huh? BBTM has like 4-5 massive hits
are artists really getting more than one big hit off a project anymore? the rest of the album isn't nearly as accessible as blinding lights either so it's not too surprising.
definitely helped a lot
And he has never been bigger as an artist than now
Won't be surprised if hes bringing home the AOTY Grammy
Kind of a shame, cus this whole album was full of pop songs for the radio, that didn’t make any impact. Would’ve rather have had a less commercial album with only 2 pop songs, if the other songs weren’t gonna pop off anyway.

full of pop songs? 3 of them lol

I'm saying AH couldn't have pushed singles because of the pandemic.
W/ BBTM, Earned It came out long before the album and it had 2 singles pop off instead of 1.

full of pop songs?
After Hours, Escape from LA, Repeat After Me, Alone Again, Snowchild, Faith, Until I Bleed Out, etc. are definitely not radio pop songs

Idk but I count
Hardest to Love
Scared to Live
Blinding Lights
Save Your Tears
And to a lesser extent:
Too Late
They were al made for the general public to a certain extent.
It helped a lot. The album sold a lot of units. Other songs off the album have too 10 potential but Blinding Lights is still being pushed to the moon
