Idk but I count
Hardest to Love
Scared to Live
Blinding Lights
Save Your Tears
And to a lesser extent:
Too Late
They were al made for the general public to a certain extent.
How is scared to live and too late pop?
How is scared to live and too late pop?
Too Late would’ve been called a pop song if Taylor Swift made it and you know it. Idk what genre of boring Disney channel music Scared to Live is.
Of all time ?
When all is said and done I will not be surprised if Blinding Lights is held in the same regard as Billie Jean, it's enormous

So you just added songs you don't like and called it pop

No it wont man stop it, the same way we barely remember the #1 songs of last year ppl we'll do the same with this
So you just added songs you don't like and called it pop
Isn’t pop short for popular music as in mainly music made for radio, that mainly middle aged woman and kids listen to.
Edit: y’all know exactly what I mean btw but the music experts can come after me if they want.

Perhaps I'm being hyperbolic, only time will tell

Wont be a billie jean, but its been a top 5 song for 30 weeks lol.
Its the 20th most streamed song on spotify of all time, definitively one of the biggest hits recently

Save Your Tears got an indie pop type vibe going on, wouldn't say its a general public type song
even Hardest to Love is like a indie esque synthpop song
I would say closest "trendy" song on here was Heartless. Even "Blinding Lights" doesn't really follow trends as it is unabashedly 80s synth pop

What I'm saying
Starboy (single) is still remembered four years on, and Blinding Lights is significantly bigger globally than that
Blinding Lights is making history for sure

but Blinding Lights would be playing at clubs where theres tons of young men and women? Pop is for everyone. Hence, "popular music".....
You're not interesting because you think you're above it

Im also not really saying these are bad songs, its just not the type of music I like. That’s why I would’ve rather had a full album of Alone Again, Title Track, Until I Bleed Outs. I think the albums biggest flaw is is that it switches to much from very light tracks to very dark tracks which doesn’t make me want to listen to it in full.
Heartless was a banger at least, more of a hip hop track. Im not talking about trends.

to be fair, Blinding Lights was a pretty unlikely hit. When it dropped, it made waves but it wasn't huge. People probably expected like a 5-6 week run before it drops. Now its bigger than its ever been and will probably be considered the song of 2020.

People just be saying anything to act like they're above listening to pop music or try to be anti-mainstream

Wasnt even a hit when it dropped, peaked at #16 and fell to the lower 50s.
A really organic hit
POP music and POPULAR (trendy) music are not the same thing.
pop is a specific genre with its characteristics and structure.
after hours has none trendy pop music. Blinding Lights,Save Your Tears,In Your Eyes are only pop songs on the album and are still extremely unusual in 2020

I got zero problem with pop songs and while my favorite Weeknd album before this was Kiss Land (an album that had fantastic atmopsheric trilogy esque Weeknd songs like Professional, The Town, Adaptation), I also know that album was deeply flawed and had a fair share of stinkers.
And for me, Weeknd's popstar change has been mostly a miss (wasnt rly a fan of most of BBTM or Starboy), but I think on After Hours, his pop songs feel much more well thought out, cohesive, and catchy (whereas on BBTM or Starboy, it often felt like someone trying desperately to translate their older sound into a pop sound and hope it stuck)
After Hours imo is by far the best thing he has done since his fully fleshed out original sound on the Trilogy.
People just be saying anything to act like they're above listening to pop music or try to be anti-mainstream
yeah, I mean I have my fair share of pop artists I don't like at all, but to be completely anti club or anti dance songs is just admitting you're a boring person

Blinding Lights isn't like all the other No. 1s tho...its already the biggest radio hit ever and the biggest top 5 hit
It has the same universal appeal as billie jean, the type of song that appeals to everyone, hence the success.
Might not be a billie jean, but its going to have a similar legacy as "Take On Me"
Kiss Land is "deeply flawed"
Album is like half-half to me
Love in the Sky, Pretty, and Tears in the Rain are just really overstretched boring songs
Live For is still to this day the worst song Weeknd ever made
The rest is fire tho

man said Billie Jean
