I got zero problem with pop songs and while my favorite Weeknd album before this was Kiss Land (an album that had fantastic atmopsheric trilogy esque Weeknd songs like Professional, The Town, Adaptation), I also know that album was deeply flawed and had a fair share of stinkers.
And for me, Weeknd's popstar change has been mostly a miss (wasnt rly a fan of most of BBTM or Starboy), but I think on After Hours, his pop songs feel much more well thought out, cohesive, and catchy (whereas on BBTM or Starboy, it often felt like someone trying desperately to translate their older sound into a pop sound and hope it stuck)
After Hours imo is by far the best thing he has done since his fully fleshed out original sound on the Trilogy.
man said fair share of stinkers
Album is like half-half to me
Love in the Sky, Pretty, and Tears in the Rain are just really overstretched boring songs
Live For is still to this day the worst song Weeknd ever made
The rest is fire tho
Tears in the Rain his greatest outro to date bro
Love in the Sky slander
Live For a dud tho I feel that
I think in some cases there are hits that become bigger than the album they live in, or even the artist themselves. I don't think that's the case here tho. Blinding Lights probably helped significantly.

man said Pretty is a dud let me
man said Billie Jean
yeah Hey Ya has been out for 20 years and even then I feel uncomfortable comparing that to Billie Jean
Feel like every album w a huge single has this problem
Chart wise i don’t think any other songs did as well as one dance for ex
Hindered other potential singles but most albums dont get after release singles that chart well so it’s whatever

s*** gave me the chills when i read it lmao song not even a year old yet.
The album is successful on its own, but what was hindered was In Your Eyes
The song was released way too early + the remix dropped right when Doja got "cancelled"
He needs to push Faith or Save Your Tears as a single for the Fall
man said Pretty is a dud let me
Dud is excessive I take that back, just low tier on KL for me , KL is still a 9.9/10
Idk why why niggas think this is his biggest single. The Hills has billion views on YouTube

I can see hit potential for Scared to Live and Save Your Tears but he gotta wait until like November/December
Scared to Live would be a gigantic hit for winter time

Yeah I could see them just pushing the Calvin joint and then saving Scared to Live for the winter so he can perform that at the Grammys
Help. Blinding Lights having the impact it still has during a pandemic says a lot honestly. In terms of AH, its such a perfect album that I think we'll look back and praise for years to come. The only track thats mid to me is the outro which I wish could have been a lot better but everything else is flawless. He finally fused his OG sound with the pop stuff organically and it came out very well.

I think the beat face and red suit is allowing the general public/non fans to remember the album
How is scared to live and too late pop?
Did you really just ask how scared to live is pop LMAO
It's fair to say that Blinding Lights is now his biggest song to date, and potentially one of the biggest pop songs of all time (goat)
But has the overwhelming success of the track overshadowed the entire era/chapter?
In Your Eyes rapidly dropped out of the charts and Heartless has virtually been forgotten about as well
Comparatively did BBTM find success across three/four big singles in the form of The Hills, Earned It, CFMF and In The Night
If you look at Apple Music, the single version of Blinding Lights is the one that is charting/garnering the most plays, rather than the album version
When you release a song with as much success as Blinding Lights has found, does the wider body of work become forgotten about?
Is this era/chapter's longevity being extended simply on the basis of Blinding Lights' success?
Im surprised tbh that they don’t just replace the single version with the album one, you’d think they could just re-format it to be listed as part of the album, while retaining the streaming numbers

Its a love ballad produced by OPN its not the classic pop radio tune tbh
Is blinding lights really that big ?
Yeah.
Tied at third with most weeks in the top 5 of all time.
Was a #1 for four weeks.
Its been in the top 5/top 10 for like 30 weeks.
1.4 billion streams on spotify(20th most streamed song on the platform of all time)
Most weeks ever at #1 on US pop radio in the history etc etc etc
