And the end of the day, GRRM was working closely with the showrunners for this season so it’s not like the showrunners are betraying George’s vision or anything like that .
They simply decided to handle this tragic event in a less explicit but equally as horrifying way

I can tell that the showrunners aren’t interested in traumatizing the audience like D&D did.
They are more interested in the drama and tension of major moments

D&D liked to go big, Ryan Condal prefers being subtle and tense

Last season when Arryk and Erryk were searching the city for him, they made it seem like he was into really sadistic/ f***ed up s***. But this episode he just seems like a run of the mill privileged d***head.

I mean he has raped a servant and he has child that is involved in a child fight ring

In this episode the queens handmaidens stiffen up like they are scared of him when he walks into the room and they try not to make any eye contact with him.

Aegon does seem to be in a better mood than season 1 though I'll give you that.
