Ready to Die was the hotter album by 95. Biggie had the larger impact. He had the hits to back it up. Death Row had nobody outside Snoop but im not even gonna address that situation cause theres always gonna be bias and there was beef behind it but in terms of artists, it was biggie. There's a reason there was such a huge dropoff between doggystyle and doggfather: Other artists came and drew the attention. Snoop kept his core and remained a superstar but other artists were buzzing more at that time. Again, same s*** with eminem and drake.

Drake was CLEARLY outdoing all his peers from his first album and outselling Kanye/Jay Z with his second album. By 2013, he had more cultural impact and relevance than Eminem and was still outdoing his peers.

Without those numbers/impact, Drake's case for being the hottest during those years falls apart, so yes, while numbers aren't EVERYTHING in the narrative of who is the hottest, they definitely matter, especially in a mainstream space.

Doja Cat's name has been hot for a while now but when it's time for her album to drop, people will be looking toward her numbers to validate the narrative of her being one of the hottest female artists out.

I trust Lil Baby's next album to do really well but it'll also need to outdo albums by his peers. He'll need to get himself some hits as well.

The album went double plat after a year. Biggie ran 95 with the hits and album. Pac was 96 lol... Pac had jail and acting to help him out. People rooted for him but ready to die was the album in demand back then which is why long-term it had a larger impact and it outsold the album. MATW not even quadruple plat. RTD went 4x plat by like 98 or some s*** then went 6x plat.

It's no different than when people said drake was top dog even though wayne still existed, jay z existed, nas, eminem, etc. It's an expression of era and time. It doesn't literally mean "he's going to outsell every artist in the genre and he's better than every artist before him". It's just his time and he's the guy for this generation of fans in high school, early college, and middle school.

I often get confused by the rhetoric on here, Wayne’s debut album sold 229k , second album did 205k, third did 141k , tha Carter 116k ,tha Carter 2 240k and like father like son 176k. Those are good numbers lol , 2006-2008 he dominated mixtapes and features which undoubtedly made him the hottest rapper and all that buzz lead him to sell 1mil in 2008.

Pac felt hotter IMO. Jail and me against the world and all his non rap situations. His name was everywhere in 95 that’s why his 96 was so huge. Pac buzz was insane in 95.

Yeah people who werent really following s*** or were too young dont realize wayne was the hottest rapper in rap by at least 07. The numbers backed it up in 08 but 07 was insane. The leaks, all the features, and the drought 3 solidified this. He was hotter than Kanye tbch. 08 wayne was insane but 07 wayne was unreal. It's basically like MVP/DPOY Jordan without the ring

I can see the argument behind it but I dont think Pac had 2 years of being the hottest. Ready to Die's impact was larger than MATW and that's what makes the case for me.
