also i f***ing love Yeezus but it's NOT a precursor to modern rap/hip hop

  • Jan 10, 2020

Yeezus wasn’t the first time people heard that sound, I can’t really give him credit for it. But I agree overall, mbdtf isn’t as potent.

If you mean Death Grips I'd argue that Kanye's lyrics on Yeezus are at least more audible. That's why I think Exmillitary is my fave DG album because I can understand Ride more clearly without having to dive into his cryptic lyrics talking about Bassolisks and s***.

kanyes lyrics on yeezus are audible f***ing trash LMAO. Just because you can't listen or understand what mc ride is saying, it doesnt make it a negative thing, lyrically wise

  • Jan 10, 2020

MBDTF is just Kanye following the same formula used on the College trilogy. Classic, resonating samples, features that will force people to like the song, incredible art direction, etc.

Yeezus felt more like a leap of faith.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Yeezus. The lyrics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of music theory most of the lyrics will go over a typical listeners head. There’s also Kanye's seemingly narcissistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Shakespearian literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these lyrics, to realise that they’re not just agressive- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Yeezus truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the lyrics in Kanye's classic song “I am a God,” which itself is a social commentary on how modern African Americans are still associated with negative stereotypes in the media. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Kanye West's genius wit unfolds itself in their headphones. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂

And yes, by the way, i DO have a tattoo of the cover art. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

    This feels racial. Like tokenism.

No not at all. More of me tryna be a boomer. It just feels like classical music movie ost and something made of pure passion. no way popstars or singers from the 2000s on can match it
