I remember sitting at table reads and realizing that between Matt and Jim, there was a billion dollars in the room
He would disagree with this, but I agree with B Dot… I don’t think he’s made a better song than The Ride
And if I could round out a top 5 or so… Club Paradise, Dreams Money Can Buy, Days in the East, maybe 5AM. I’m liking Knife Talk and NFITI a lot also
Also I realize (and drake would say) my list is a result of the fact that those were the songs that were the soundtrack to specific moments for me. College, breakups, etc. So maybe they’re not necessarily his best but they’re the best to me. He’d say he’s made better music since then
(Not that I’ve had these convos with him. Just know that’s what he’d say)
Oh nah you invited to Drake sxn cookout
Those are easily some of his best. I dont think he has come close to Tc-Nwts-Iyritl level since but his music still great to me.
If you speak to him again, tell him about drake sxn. Idk about today but it was the most active section on this site for a while, even bigger than ye who this site is based on. Would be dope if he jumped on / peeped it since he was on forums coming up
Yeah people think because you write for TV you’re gonna watch a ton. I hadn’t watched blackish before my agent told me they were interested. I was also very young and not the target demo. I didn’t watch the simpsons growing up
I remember the episode of blackish I’m credited with (people usually say “my episode of X” but I don’t like that phrasing because it’s such a collaborative effort), one of the early suggestions for this guest star white character was Will Arnett and I was so geeked cuz I love Arrested so much.
Arrested Development, Girls, Bojack… might be the only comedies I’ve watched (in the past 5 - 8 years). Before that, The Office of course. And Parks. But even those kind of feel ancient and dated now
I'm very curious, why did they (blackish) say they were interested in you? did your agent send them your writing demo/scripts? I just find it strange but interesting that a tv show would be interested in a writer who has never even watched much tv aside a few shows.
Sure. Shocked anyone would trust me with a secret
Okay if that’s the case then when’s the new ye album dropping and can I have his number
@op i’m writing my first script about gaddafi’s missing billions that i have first hand knowledge about where it went but don’t want to pitch it anywhere as to not put the people still alive in danger just doing it as an experiment. When i’m done would you mind looking it over to see if I have potential ?
When I first watched Arrested Development seasons one to three I was amazed by how tight the script was. What are your THOUGHTS on this? How would you rate what the writers room has achieved here compared to some of your other favorites? And if you did find it as tight as me, what other shows do you feel have achieved this?
I discovered Arrested Development long after its run. I was a big Office fan and now think Arrested is twice the show The Office is
I’m amazed at how many jokes they were able to pack into the show. That script might have like 3 jokes a page or something
Simpsons made me fall in love with joke writing. We might sit in near silence pitching on the same joke for 10 minutes just to find the right one. Blackish was jokes but obviously more story oriented. And when I was there we got into stuff that was also more about lessons and race and stuff which was great but means you have to balance with jokes
The joke density of Arrested is unmatched. But not just density. Quality as well
I went to the mall (I know right, what is it, the 90’s?) and kept getting lost because I’m answering these questions
Now I’m trying to find a Mod pizza that google maps swears I am already at. Multitasking is so difficult
Update: found it
@op is it true that sending yourself an email with your script is enough to protect your work?
Nothing to say but shoutout to you
Thanks man. I like your work. Especially on Jacksonville rappers
If you knew how excited I was when blackish producers suggested Will Arnett as the guest star for the episode I’m credited as having written

Hey, don't know what the problem with this website is but I seem to be having trouble logging in to my main account
Feel free to PM me the script and any potential details on the current location of the money on this account

It’s as good protection as any
In tech and in tv / film, you know someone is green as f*** and likely a waste of your time when they ask you to sign something before sharing their business idea or script with you
Thanks man. I like your work. Especially on Jacksonville rappers
Appreciate that my boy!

If I had to bet, he’s already aware. He’s aware of everything. He knows everything that’s being said
I think part of the reason he’s able to so wisely choose who to collab with and it’s almost always someone who ends up blowing up is because he’s just so aware and in tune with everything
Like I genuinely won’t be surprised if he sees this. I hadn’t seen him since the billboard decade party (where we didn’t really interact) and before that, idk when. And when I saw him a couple weeks ago, he greeted me like an old friend
