I think part of the reason he’s able to so wisely choose who to collab with and it’s almost always someone who ends up blowing up is because he’s just so aware and in tune with everything
Like I genuinely won’t be surprised if he sees this. I hadn’t seen him since the billboard decade party (where we didn’t really interact) and before that, idk when. And when I saw him a couple weeks ago, he greeted me like an old friend

I only notice smells if someone smells bad, but I will say he is a really nice guy. Like a genuinely nice person, not someone who is faking it

Honestly all that stuff is overrated. When I moved to LA, I was really caught up in the clout and wanting to be at EVERY drake party or Kylie / Kendall party or Bieber party or whatever
That stuff gets old, and the chance that meeting any of these people will change your life is so so so so low

Said this earlier, but you know someone is green / inexperienced in business or Hollywood when they’re obsessed about you signing stuff and scared their idea will be stolen
Chances are your idea isn’t worth stealing. Also if it can be stolen, that is concerning for other reasons
Issa Rae’s idea was black millennials dating and being friends in LA. Anyone can write about that, but can you get HBO to back you? Can you bring Larry Wilmore in as a co-creator
Black-ish is a simple (and great) idea. A guy from the hood is rich and worried his kids will grow up soft. You could write that, sure. But can you get Anthony Anderson and Laurence Fishburne attached to it? That Laurence Fishburne? The guy who played Morpheus
Hey I have an idea where people create profiles and friend each other! Ok can you program it? Can you get everyone at Harvard to join it? Etc. Ideas are worthless. Execution is everything

I'm very curious, why did they (blackish) say they were interested in you? did your agent send them your writing demo/scripts? I just find it strange but interesting that a tv show would be interested in a writer who has never even watched much tv aside a few shows.

I watched a lot of TV growing up. Colbert / Stewart / Conan / Comedy Central standup / Comedy Central roasts all through middle school
I also joined the Harvard Lampoon and wrote a pilot and had a packet of my Lampoon material
Back then, I also watched more shows. Girls, Entourage, Californication. And I wasn’t too far removed from being a big Office and Parks & Rec person
My agent sent them my material, and someone there liked it. We met and then they liked me
As far as why, they thought I could write for the kid characters sort of. Like bring a youth perspective

More than anything rn I’m set on trying to get a ~5 minute short animation of my idea done. You’re saying I shouldn’t have a script for that? I’m confused lol

He would disagree with this, but I agree with B Dot… I don’t think he’s made a better song than The Ride
And if I could round out a top 5 or so… Club Paradise, Dreams Money Can Buy, Days in the East, maybe 5AM. I’m liking Knife Talk and NFITI a lot also
Also I realize (and drake would say) my list is a result of the fact that those were the songs that were the soundtrack to specific moments for me. College, breakups, etc. So maybe they’re not necessarily his best but they’re the best to me. He’d say he’s made better music since then
(Not that I’ve had these convos with him. Just know that’s what he’d say)

I’ll listen to the pitch I work at Disney I was the one that said “ call Tobey and Garfield “ actually changed my life I’m currently at Kevin Feiges we are talking about the next phase . Anything any of you would like to see ? Kevin said come with the pitch and we will adapt it to a super hero movie but first we need the pitch and full schematics and coordinates of where the money is so we can get some on sight footage . Kevin says “ wow sounds good script believable to audience and we can make the rollout a treasure hunt “

I liked it a lot when it dropped. Still like it, but lately when I listen, the flow sounds kinda lazy. I guess it’s also effortless but it feels like the performance is kind of… idk… lazy. Fire bars though
I would like to talk to him about his music, but our convos are always pretty hi and bye, dapping up and moving around. You remember he gets $2m a show so each minute of his time is worth $33,333. And I never wanna over talk or monopolize someone’s time. But honestly next time I see him maybe I’ll talk music
