I think when I first started coming around, I was so geeked that I probably screwed myself out of any meaningful relationship at least in the short term

We talked a couple of weeks ago because we were both at the same spot. I did write that one caption for him (further up thread). I’m also friends with people who have shot his videos. Director X in particular. So he doesn’t really need help there.

I think the more you desire from celebrity relationships, the more you’ll be let down. Unless it’s a genuine friend you’re close to and / or you knew before the fame. These days, I’m satisfied with the private parties, the brief convos, hearing music early because it’s often played at parties or because you’re watching an early cut of a video (although seeing a video early only happened once). Also it’s kinda funny knowing things that never get out. Although it’s not that much stuff

There’s this legendary Simpsons writer. All the other writers speak about him as if he is some sort of God. He’s very reclusive but he had an interview in the New Yorker or somewhere recently. And he had the absolute best advice. Especially having written for shows it resonates with me

Just write a s***ty version of it. Just write it. Not intentionally s***ty but just write it and don’t worry about the quality. Then rewrite it. Writing is hard. Rewriting is easy

But I do have a trick that makes things easier for me. Since writing is very hard and rewriting is comparatively easy and rather fun, I always write my scripts all the way through as fast as I can, the first day, if possible, putting in crap jokes and pattern dialogue—“Homer, I don’t want you to do that.” “Then I won’t do it.” Then the next day, when I get up, the script’s been written. It’s lousy, but it’s a script. The hard part is done. It’s like a crappy little elf has snuck into my office and badly done all my work for me, and then left with a tip of his crappy hat. All I have to do from that point on is fix it.

My next show for sure. I could def see Bart getting sucked into a KTT type forum. But in that case it should just be a Reddit type forum. My favorite character to write for was Mr. Burns. Maybe he starts a KTT or Reddit type forum

Succession is like the anti-Billions. I heard great things about Billions, but put off watching it because I felt it would be too close to home for obvious reasons. I eventually watched and liked it

I felt the same way about Succession since I'm very familiar with that world (super super rich white people / corporate stuff). I started it and I can't get into it. I expected I'd like it a lot. Maybe I'll give it another try

Word. As another poster said, you really have to give it some time. It takes the entire season to build and it gets great from there but regardless I can understand what you mean

And maybe you already answered this, but how did your relationship with drake come about?

Going to peep game itt in a few since I’ve been overly motivated to genuinely get into writing. Want to put a strong emphasis on how much I appreciate a thread like this. I tried to get involved in some screenwriting and directing sub Reddit’s and dudes were so f***ing hostile and snarky and you could sense this overwhelming narcissism of self importance. Is the industry like that in general since everyone is trying to get on so it’s a bunch of just s***ting on the next guy and sucking off the ones with clout?

My 3 favorite artists are probably Drake, Paul Simon, and Vampire Weekend. If I’m thinking all time my entire life then Tupac also. I’ve gotten to know Ezra and Drake so that’s 2 of 3

I heard a lot of songs before they dropped since they’re played at parties. I’m Upset, N 2 Deep, Signs, No Complaints, Nice For What, Behind Barz. Probably others I’m forgetting. Or in one case I saw an early cut of a video. I also saw a video that never came out. I can’t remember it but it was from NWTS. I think “Own It”

TV writing hours are super chill. When I’m on a show, it varies but it’s basically a 9 to 5. Maybe a 10 to 6. Simpsons was incredibly chill. I used to call it adult day care. I hope no one from the show sees that and thinks it’s a slight. It was a very relaxed, friendly, collegial atmosphere. Blackish was a bit more high pressure for me since the show was season 2 so still establishing itself, and it wasn’t just about jokes but also about race / racism and I was 23 / 24
