Is it impossible to get into the industry as a TV director without connections?
Nothing is impossible except for mathematical or scientific impossibilities like squaring a circle
pretty dope stuff, thanks for sharing your knowledge OP.. wishing you the best
Thanks!
I’m hopping over from the screen guild writing thread. I looked at your YouTube channel and I remember seeing the African time pilot from a few years ago glad to see you’re on KTT. Side question, did you talk to you agent about getting in the writer room for First Gen by Yvonne Orji? From what I read on it it’s gonna be a similar premise.

Yeah I remember it being similar made it harder to pitch
That’s a good idea. Maybe. But I’m working on some other stuff right now
I’m against making broad generalizations. I think most people who are in online forums haven’t had the kind of success they’d like to have (since most people who have made it aren’t really spending time in forums on screenwriting). And so it’s probably people’s own dissatisfaction with their place in life and their lack of success that’s manifesting
Very good response and this actually makes a lot of sense!
What show would u like to get in on the most rn?
Now that I'm almost done with season 1, I can say the answer to your question is Succession. Aside from The Simpsons which I think is the best job in TV and one of the best jobs in jobs
@dsonoiki hey bro I have a question that I’ve asked some people but never got a clear answer
Shows obviously have writers rooms etc, so what does it mean when each specific episode is ‘Written By ____’ in the credits and it’s one person
Does that just mean they came up with that specific episodes concept and they wrote it with the writers? Or do the writers come up with the concept and then the one person writes the script?

so funny you ask. I talk about it in this video I' putting on YouTube tomorrow. I'm also planning to do a TikTok about it bc it's something that surprised me.
a show is like gumbo. everyone is tossing stuff in. jokes, stories, dialogue, etc. there is often little correlation between "written by" and who contributed the most. black-ish and Simpsons were very different but that was true of both of them
I need to keep at least some mystique or leave something for patreon (patreon.com/funnythingpod) but in one show, the room as a whole sketched out the outline of the episode, then a writer was assigned to do a draft that the room would rewrite but not rewrite too heavily
in the other show, the "written by" writer would write the entire episode themselves, then the room would rewrite it over and over and over again for months on end until you'd be lucky to find a single word left over from the first draft (exaggerating a little but not that much)
Hire me as s consultant bro i've got ideas
I already sold North America and Asia distribution rights for Gumline 1 - 6. Disney is getting the theme park rights, and I'm not sure what I will do with merch, but that will most likely just go to the highest bidder
So basically I'm set for life. But if you can be of value, my email is somewhere up thread
But I don't really see anyone topping Gumline, given how fleshed out the GCU (Gumline Cinematic Universe) is at this point
@op You know the movie Drumline right? Now just imagine a spinoff that's the exact same plot but instead of drumming, it's about Nick Cannon's kid going to dental school. It's called Gumline
You think Hollywood would fw this idea?

up thread. movie idea @RedEyeJedi and I came up with. well, mostly me. it's getting a lot of heat in Hollywood right now ("heat" is like another word for "buzz,' but saying "heat" lets people know you're not new to the business)
think "Luck of the Irish" meets "Drumline" meets dentistry
OP really just out here stealing my movie idea
good luck proving that. jk you'll obviously get a credit. this feels like an F. Gary Gray project

*Cannon Cinematic Universe
Every movie will have a Nick Cannon cameo
