I think FGT also never really gets as ambitious musically or far out as Mr. Morale does though.
FGT is more…”traditional” if that makes sense. Like there’s no moments like Crown or Mother I Sober on that album that really push a certain boundary. The production is excellent, but I wouldn’t say it’s really challenging in the slightest.
I don’t really think that Mr. Morale is really that challenging or boundary pushing either though.
It’s not some super experimental project, but it definitely has a consistent and cohesive sound to it.
Is it ambitious? Sure, in parts but not as much as some people make it out to be
I'll never understand people who talk down on the replayability of a song/album. No one is saying you can't make an album with a message but as a musician, it's your job to find a way to communicate your message in a way that's compelling enough that people find a way to keep coming back to it, especially when you're releasing that album for commercial profit and public consumption.
No one owes you their time or attention. If you make s*** that's hard to listen to, don't be surprised if no one comes back to listen to your s***, regardless of how good it might be.
Nah this is some major entitlement.
The painting of a flower on my bedroom wall must be of better quality than the Mona Lisa because I appreciate it every day, unlike the Mona lisa
Op probably thinks HNM is AOTY.
It’s Rich Off Pints 3 but the point of the tweet still stands

Idk If I didn’t revisit Yeezus years later I would probably still hate it. I love the album now. Maybe I’m getting off topic tho.
It’s kind of unrealistic to expect everyone to return to albums they don’t like years down the line to see if their opinion will change. Also kind of implies the idea that music can’t be bad
They got it right . Only Beyoncé is the suitable option

Kendrick has delivered albums with some pretty heavy themes/messages that were also very enjoyable listens in the past, which is why MMATBS sticks out like a sore thumb lol.
“Replay value” is an interesting term to me cuz in practice it often equates to “music I can listen to a lot bc I can turn my brain off and just vibe to it” (in connection with our earlier conversation abt aesthetics and the surface level)
it's quite literally the laziest critique one can give out to all music
what you may not come back to, another person might over and over again, so clearly just like most things when it's related to music, it is a subjective venture
there are things like choruses and hooks that you can say keep people returning to a song of course, but the key is that there's something that someone enjoys about the music in particular that keeps them coming back to it, and it doesn't necessarily have to be either of those aforementioned things

Why don’t you trust your own opinion?

Idk man I guess we can agree to disagree cuz I heard some s*** on that album that made me raise my eyebrows a few times but that’s just me

I get your idea but this a***ogy doesn’t really work. Music is a way more functional medium than paintings are. People live with songs and albums throughout every day and outside of their homes

kendrick should go write a book at this point and let the greats cook good music

mona lisa to me ain’t nothing but a b****
S*** was def classic level material that has yet to be matched for 2022 but it’s my least favorite of all the major Kendrick albums
GKMC, TPAB, & DAMN >>>>
I think it’s right behind them tho, ahead of S80 and UU
