Y’all are gonna try to listen to a lot of this music even 5-10 years from now (let alone 10-15/20 years from now) and think that s*** is cringey. Lmao try listening to like famous Dex or some s*** now

As opposed to 96-04 Outkast or even albums like Doggystyle College Dropout C1/C2 that still hold up today

im talking bout albums like rodeo and HH "classics" from this time period

If that’s the era lil pump went number 1 then I believe he has a valid case.

Ehh that era is an exception. That’s back when the internet was making people like Bhad bhaby and and woahvicky famous

    Times have changed

Because that type of music or it’s modern equivalent is what makes people want to defend against statements like that. Nobody thinking of Vince Staples or Tyler when they say this is the worst take of all time they’re thinking of Yeat and similar type artists who make cool momentary music

Nobody is thinking of Yeat etc when u say 2015. We know who the artist that made up the 2015 era. And one of Future Travis Kendrick Cole Thug Drake Tyler Carti Uzi may have put out some of your favorite music ever in this era.

If someone thinks of famous Dex first when they hear 2015 that’s on them

Lol u picked outkast and Kanye/Wayne from other eras and famous Dex was the best u could do for this era?

I'm not one of those "everything was better back then" type of dudes but we literally just had like 3-4 threads lamenting the lack of decent superstar rappers post Big 3 recently.

I f*** with newer rap if it sounds good to me but the last 4 years definitely is more of a "vibe/carried by production" wave than a traditional rap star wave.

Pusha T and Future are literally outselling the majority of the new school rn. And so will Kendrick. Even Jack Harlow ain't projected to outsell Pluto.

And the underground was always generally better than the mainstream in any era before you try to mention that. The 2000's had DOOM, Atmosphere, Little Brother, Blu, Quasimoto, Dilated Peoples, etc.

    It’s 100% true, I’m sorry to say.

That’s what people said 10 years ago about that mumble rapper who sang “tony Montana”

I would bet that the vast majority of people born before 1996 would agree with this.

I agree that the current era is lacking. But they are including 2015 in these tweets and threads so that just makes any point u make invalid when u include those years.

    That's a good point.

In a nutshell, though, 80's rap has some of the most timeless party jams in hip hop. The disco/house influence was still prevalent with a number of rap jams then.

    so dustheads?

Almost every classic that’s dropped since 2015 has been by artists who were already hot way before 2015. 2015 itself was an amazing year for music. If you say 2016-2022, then it’s certified the worst.

This is cherry picking. There’s plenty of bad music from every era, as well as plenty of good music from every era. No one is looking at Famous Dex as representative of what music from 2015-22 sounded like.

This is like saying the 90s is the best era of basketball because Jordan played, and then using Fred VanVleet (no disrespect) as the representative for this era of basketball

There was terrible music in the 90s as there is terrible music today. Savage Mode, DS2, Jeffery etc will all still be highly enjoyable in years to come. FYI this is no shade on outkast at all they are my favourite hip-hop Duo

Rodeo is decent but that serves his point even more

rodeo is a pretty big dropoff from the classic albums of the 90’s-00’s. If we’re judging it off it actually being hip hop and not “vibes” lmao
