to be fair I think that was an event level release

I was told hip hop was declining because Drake was not “outside” despite dropping 100 songs and once he is popular again hip hop will be big and this is all Kendrick’s fault.

ahh now I don't know about all that

I'm just here for the music.

Now that I think about it, "the beef" was the series finale for hip hop for a lot of people

Drake came from Wayne's/Hot Boyz lineage
    Kendrick came from Dre
    Cole (lol) came from Jay

It's like all of hip hop led to that moment then casuals just left the theater

by COVID do you mean people just wanting everything at home immediately instead of leaving and doing things (buying music, going to concerts, ECT)

Kinda ya. Think about it right, if you isolate literally every human in the world for 2+ years and the internet becomes a universal layer of every single person (including old people)’s reality that changes the way ppl interact with everything including culture very fundamentally. Radio effectively fully dies, shows couldn’t happen, everyone got on their computer, every single aspect of life is accessible through the digital realm, and information channels are almost completely decentralized esp as streaming stops being just a young hip person thing ON TOP of the normal amount of cultural shifting that occurs normally every year that’s a massive change for most aspects of how people interact with things esp cultural exports. It’s a 9/11 or bigger level mass psychologically shifting event. Almost like a reset or alt universe what if scenario lol

  • The pandemic f***ed up creativity. The 2020s are the worst decade

It’s where it became 100% flanderized that’s for sure. Not even blaming Drake or Kendrick because what they had going on had so many layers of context that the GP just wasn’t aware of or cared about but it was absolutely milked dry and discarded of when there was nothing left to gain

the thing is that we thought it was infinity war/endgame but in reality it was only civil war

we have a final battle ahead of us...

  • SABMAN TURNT

    exactly

hip hop was #1 before, and now country probably is

it’s just how the tides go

No other genre has the universal appeal that rap does

White boys and women listen to rap music but niggas (and a lot of the other non white demographics that play a lot of rap) will never play country music or pop the way they play rap

Country or pop can’t really replace rap because of that

Jay or Drake has to be (proverbially) sacrificed to make way for the next Mt Rushmore tier artist

Thats always happened tho, whatevr was popping in America 5-10 years ago is brand new to niggas overseas, you’d always hear that for classic 90’s rappers in the 2010’s

Its hard to ignore its no new signature stars

Those are artists that have been in the game since the early 2010’s. We know there are still super starts but the genre is not producing any new ones. Thats the problem.
