It’s not perfect but the historiography is incredible and it’s necessary reading if you’re a leftist of any stripe, one of my fav books. There’s good faith criticisms of it to be had but yeah most white people that come at it are just salty and insecure and don’t get the point

very recommend this. just a simple history book full of maps, info, rulers, wars, and more. no leftist bullshit in there.

Histories are always part myth anyway. And it can be read as much as a reflection on the sentiments of enlightenment England as a history of antiquity.
Plus given the era in which it was written it’s a pretty amazing achievement in anthropology, even today you’d be hard pressed to find a scholar that matches the breadth of first hand documents gibbon was intimately familiar with. I won’t stand for no slander
