Half of its job imo. The tag is almost useless if you still don't know who the producer is. Like the nigga I knew in high school who heard "Mustardonthebeathoe" - he'd heard it on multiple songs but had no idea one guy produced all those songs or who that guy is

was your friend older than everyone else in the class by a few years?

Imo, I’m siding with Hit-Boy on this one. Kanye is a d*** lol

He just told bro tags are corny lol plenty of other examples of ye being a d***. This not one of them.

if your stance is “producers shouldn’t use tags” then your stance is that they shouldn’t be guaranteed proper credit on the beats they make

there is no guarantee that the artist will shout them out (and it’s extremely unlikely that they would in the first place)

in your perfect utopia where production credits are easy to find on whichever platform you use to play music, sure, that stance makes sense

however, in the real world we live in, your stance translates to “i don’t want producers getting proper recognition for their work”

if your stance is “producers shouldn’t use tags”

Okay, please quote where I said this.

You're saying "producers should 100% use tags", and I'm saying "producers can use tags if they want, and producers without tags have succeeded elsewhere".

This all started with you incorrectly claiming Kendrick Lamar didn't put on the careers of multiple producers and his engineer. Now you're conflating having credits on a record (which is how you get paid for it) with producer tags (which are a branding exercise).

I already suggested a much better for them to go about that with artist tags. You're saying that won't happen. Okay, well Young Chop tried to be a rapper and how'd that turn out? A lot of things won't happen. Pi'erre Bourne just dropped a record with Cardo with Cardo's name in the title of it. He branched out into rapping AND he has a DJ tag. I'm not limiting anyone's options. So stop saying weirdo s*** on my name you moron.

Daytona was marketed as an album entirely produced by Kanye & that was a MAJOR part of its promotion and release, that’s a terrible example to use

my “Kendrick Lamar hates crediting producers” post was a meme reference to “Dr. Dre hates fans” did you actually take that seriously? is that where this is coming from?

i think you’re giving your friend too much credit — sounds like your friend wasn’t even a casual listener, more like a reluctant listener. did he even like rap?

why Do you think that was used as a major part of its promotion... kanye is known for being a great producer/having a dope signature sound. Also Otis still a good example tho
