True, but if consensus was strong enough against that policy it would change
I don’t think this is really true, the US doesn’t work on policy based on majority consensus, despite popular belief. The country would be way more conservative if that was the case (or alternatively, you’d have way more basic moderate establishment politicians in office).
Out
I don't know what to tell you. I'm not David p, and I will never claim to be. Please stop.
i once bought a homeless/beggar a tall boy bud light when he asked me to before going into the liquor store, and i’d do it again tbh.
system for homeless people is broken, but i’m not going to deny a man without the means to get what he wants, what he wants, as long as it’s reasonable.

most of us just want to be left alone. looking at the political landscape would give you the opposite impression

Say it louder for people in the back, please!
Hell. Yeah that's what is so f***ed up right now. It feels like going against the "status quo" is looked at badly.
i don’t think there’s bad opinions unless you advocate for harm/violence. nothing is white or black just shades of grey. no perfect way to approach the situation it’s tough

If every single person wanted that to change it would change. But I agree that our system isn’t designed with general consensus as the driving force behind policy

i thought you were arguing against giving homeless people money?

Buddy I was making a (hilarious!) joke using the ‘I’m f***ing Davidp’ setup pls learn to see past the insecurity this site has alrdy given you

It’s more complicated though once policy starts to implicate by proxy one’s environment or children (by perception of the individual)

Best opinion in this thread. Yes, it's a case by case scenario.

Do you want to debate about this topic above?

I have to disagree. I would prob say every middle class person in the US hates the rich but it hasn’t changed anything. Everyone in the world is against bureaucracy and corruption but it hasn’t changed anything. Opinion doesn’t matter without action.
"other opinions" = "you're against me"
what’s like the “status quo” in your opinion
And again like reducing this entire thing down to someone handing homeless people money/food/water on the streets isn’t even like a serious debate man respectfully
what’s there to actually debate on. You don’t have to give them $5 next time, if everyone stops giving them money they’re still gonna be homeless and probably feeling s***ty
Atleast they can have a quick high or use the money to get food in the meantime.
You seem smart so seriously like I can’t see how having a nuanced debate on such a tiny part of the entire housing solution in America is really worth it

Clearly not everyone lol, otherwise who would be doing it? I’m sure this seems pedantic but it’s not like there’s absolutely NO correlation between policy and opinion. Someone is making the policies

I know there’s no correlation between opinion and policy, that’s why I said popular consensus doesn’t matter…

absolute power corrupts absolutely, and “getting yours” tends to have a “fuck everyone else” effect on people. s***ty but true

Honestly you're right.

I’m confused what you’re saying, you first said consensus informs results but then said popular opinion doesn’t matter?
@papawheely I get it, sorry.
